FastPass+ - Staying in resort for one day?

I'm heading to Disney in March, staying OUTSIDE of Disney. I would love to get access to fastpass + but since I'm staying out of the resort. I did read on here that staying one night at a resort will gain access to FP+

My questions:
  • If I booked one night at a resort, will I have FP+ for the rest of my trip? Or could I book the resort the last night of our trip?
  • What if I booked, and canceled the night before? I honestly am fine with paying a little extra for the convenience of helping us reserve some things ahead of time.
  • What happens if I book, don't cancel, but don't show up? Would my FP+ be voided?

Okay so this is exactly what I did....
When we booked our trip off property we started it with one night at Pop Century. Within a week we got invited to do the FP+, but first I had to link my 5 day ticket. Once I did that I was able to make five days worth of FP+ selections.
Now my Magic Bands did arrive in the mail before our trip, but.... YES you do have to go and check-in (so you cannot cancel and NOT show up). You have to do this to activate each band individually at the check-in desk. So unless you go and check-in the magic bands that you have in your possession will NOT work! You will also have your credit card attached to the bands for those that you choose for the day of your check-in and the following day until midnight. Thsi was really convenient.

Also we are now going back in April and have linked our new 5 days ticket to the magic bands and have 5 more FP+ days to look forward to reserving!!

Let me know if I can help out with any other information

No we are back at Marriott Grande Vista offsite. But now that magicbands were activated, all we had to do was link our new tickets online at the MyDisney Experience.

Follow-up question to OP...we are doing this too. Checking-in for one night with our park passes attached to that one-night stay. Then staying offsite for the rest of the week. My parents will be coming down later in the week. Can I get a room that would accommodate all of us (4 adults, 2 kids), add their park tickets too (yes, knowing I'd need to add the full amount of days for them even though they won't use them all), so that we can ALL get magic bands and fp+ 60-day access? In other words, is there any reason that they physically have to be there when we check-in for that one night to activate the bands if they are shipped to me? Disney reservations is telling me no (they would NOT have to be there), but wondered if anyone had any experience with this?

If you have a room big enough for you all then yes they would all get the magic bands.... And no they do not have to be there in person to have the band activated. I activated my children's while they were off playing in the arcade!

I'm debating paying the money for one night just to be able to use the fastpass+ in advance. A room per night is fairly cheap. If what you are saying is accurate, I could check in and literally not even stay in the room.

I guess my next question is, do I need to check out? Some places, you just leave and return the key.

That is correct you don't even need to stay in the room. At Pop Century we were automatically checked out. No need to do anything, and with your magicbands as your room key you didn't even need to leave those!
An added bonus was getting 2 days of free parking too!

If we stayed one night at the disney resort and 7 night in a condo would we get 60 day early FP+ accesses and would we get magic bands to use all the days we are there or will the magic bands only work the first night we are in hotel?

Just got off the phone from talking to someone through disney reservations who said if we stay one night we can use a magic band throughout our stay but could not book FP+ for all days.

When just there in November we stayed the one night. Our magic bands arrived in mail, we had to link our 5 day passes to each band, then we were able to book FP+ in advance for all days of the ticket (that is all 5 days!)
Also we are going in April off property and we linked new 5 day passes to our magic bands from November and we have been able to start making our FP+ reservations already bc its 60 days out.
Not sure but maybe the CM wasn't sure about the question.

This was true when FP+ was in the initial testing phase but not any more.

I have an upcoming reservation for 3 nights at WDW resorts but the attached ticket has more than 5 days. I can only book 4 days' worth of FP+ - my arrival date thru my departure date.

If you were to make a regular or a ghost reservation for one night, you will no longer get unlimited access to FP+. You will only be able to book FP+ for the day of arrival and the day of departure.

ETA: Okay, this is weird. Two days ago, I couldn't go beyond my departure day in order to make FP+ reservations. I just checked the MDE website again after posting and now it is permitting me to make FP+ reservations up until April 3rd. This could be because the attached ticket is an AP and AP holders were advised via email that we would soon be able to make FP+ reservations in advance.

This is true. The FP+ can only be booked for people who are named on the reservation and people for the length of stay.

Kimberly: According to your FAQ page..... Can I reuse my MagicBand or card the next time I visit Walt Disney World Resort?
A. Yes. If you have a MagicBand or card that you like, and it is in working condition, you can continue to use it when you return to Walt Disney World Resort.

Kimberly: I have magicbands from my visit in November... I am staying off property in April and was wondering if I am able to link my new park tickets to my bands. Obviously I would not have a credit card linked but Would I be able to use it for admission and FP+

Danyale Soars: Welcome Kimberly! My name is Danyale and I will be more than happy to assist you today! Please give me one moment to get that information for you!

Kimberly: thanks

Danyale Soars: My Pleasure!! I will be right with you!You can still use the MagicBand but you will not be able to book Fastpass+ 60 days in advance.

Kimberly: will my bands work at the daily kiosks

Danyale Soars: Are you referring to the Fastpass kiosks?

Kimberly: yes

Danyale Soars: Your bands will work the same way. The only difference is that you will not be able to book your Fastpass+ selections 60 days in advance.

Kimberly: perfect thank you.
Danyale Soars: My Pleasure!!
Danyale Soars: Have A Magical Day!
