Fastpass+ Rumors?

I read rumors not too long ago about how a modified version of WDW's Fastpass+ will likely be arriving at Disneyland in the near future.

But has anyone heard rumors of WHEN this might start?

The only thing I've heard, and it IS strictly an unsubstantiated rumour, is that it should be in place by the end of 2017. Again this isn't from a reliable source, just 'someone who knows someone who knows someone who said someone said'.

The most I'd be willing to say is that I'm sure FP+ will be in place well before SWL opens so they can work all the bugs out beforehand.

I read something as well a while back and found these articles dated from May....not sure the reliability
http://the-daily.buzz/disneyland-fastpass/
http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/05/breaking-first-details-on-how-disneylands-fastpass-will-work/

And I can't find the specific article, but I read somewhere they would be testing it out starting in November 2016 throughout 2017 and roll out Q4 2017 or Q1 2018.

I don't know how reliable these sources are though, so perhaps you heard the rumor from these?

According to the article, it will still be day-of and only one at a time, thankfully, just electronic rather than paper. I prefer paper, but I know I'm old-fashioned and it will probably be easier for most people. I just want details on the testing plans. I'm little wary of test periods. The last time I was at WDW was during the "test" period -- they had added FP to many attractions and removed paper FP, but FP+ was strictly limited to 3 per day with tiers, and there was a lot of confusion and technical glitches. Our FP reservations would random disappear and then reappear.

i got a chance to experience a paperless fastpass. It was added to my ticket, and scanned again at the FP line. i thought that was interesting...

This sounds interesting. Was there a way to track your fastpasses with the app? Was this what they were testing at Space Mountian a few months back? I don't think I caught all the details on what that was about.

I enjoy the way the system works currently, and if there's a way to keep that but lose the paper I'd be interested in it.

Well I want the photopass with the ride videos. Those are linked to magic bands at WDW. My Dad sent me one of my Grandson on Seven Dwarfs mine train during their visit this week, and I'm sold. It will take some getting used to, but if it comes with automatically linked ride photos I can deal with the rest. I would love to see them do a photopass ride video for radiator springs. Maybe we can get a hybrid system, electronic but one at a time day of just like now....

there wasnt. based on what ive heard, i think they are steering towards something to do with NFC. I think this other method i experimented may be another backup... and/or steering for no cast member fastpass access? idk.

They have already said that magic bands are not coming to DLR. I think their FP+ system will be very different from what you are used to at WDW. Without the RFID in the magic band, I don't know how they would have automatic upload of photos/video.

That would be nice. We are planning a trip there next year and appreciate the FP+ at WDW.

This would be an ideal mix of the two, with so many local visitors who decide on a whim to go for a day. The WDW system would never work here. I for one would love being able to make FPs electronically. It's annoying to be at Haunted Mansion and decide you want to get a fastpass for Space Mountain, and I would love to be able to make a FP for Racers while I'm in DL. I wonder if your ticket will have to be activated before you can start making FPs.

As I mentioned in my original post I had found a more recent article (which spoke of the test period), and I think it had also mentioned that you would be able to select 3 fastpass+ per day (a certain amount of days before your visit) on the app, just like WDW. I can't find that darn article now though. I have no idea how that would work though!

Interesting. When was this?

I was kind of hoping they would roll out the testing soon so it would be a little more known before our trip next year.

I don't like the way WDW seems (though we haven't tried it yet.) But the idea of being able to pick some fastpasses from my phone once we enter the park would be nice. Now that we have a toddler, it does make it a little harder to get on the "adult" rides. We pulled FPs for RSR last time but they ended up being for a time when our son was back at the hotel napping so we didn't use them. I would love to enter the park, pull up the app, and pick a time later in the day.

I do NOT want to book fastpasses days/weeks/months in advance though.

I really thought we'd be able to use the new system in February but it isn't sounding likely at this point.

My understanding is that Disneyland doesn't have WIFI yet, right? So this would be a problem for some including us. We are coming from Canada, and thus will not have data plan when visiting. I really hope they don't go this route as we'd be at a disadvantage.

(WDW lets you book ahead of time so I did the bookings from home. Plus they have wifi)

I didn't really pay attention, but I don't believe they have wifi in the parks unfortunately.

I think it would be nice to have some kind of electronic system in place. Especially for people with mobility issues, it's not really feasible to run around the parks picking up fast passes. Also for lazy people like me, lol.

But they will have to have a plan for people who don't have internet access I think. I wonder if they will have some kind of kiosks distributed throughout parks.

Here is hoping no FP+ish system in place (or being tested) for my visit in November. While it may sound nice to be able to book a FP with out having to actually walk to the ride, you will give up so much control of your day. And if you are limited to only 3 a day - that is awfully limited for people who know how to make the system work for them. I hated it at WDW (particularly staying off-site and trying to use fastpass at EPCOT).

How could that work for a park that has many local visitors? Please, no. No preplanning what you'll ride in advance. No booking three at once. No tiers like at Epcot and HS. Leave some FP disconnected. Have plenty of kiosks for people who don't have or want to use cellphone data.

I'm very skeptical of this and if you can find the article I would appreciate it. The reason there is the 3 FP+ restriction at WDW is because so many of their parks are devoid of popular attractions.
