FastPass+ Question?

I'm planning my fast pass+ selections for a day at the Magic Kingdom I see that I have an option for a 8:40AM fast pass for big thunder mountain but the park opens at 9:00AM. Do they let us in early for the ride or is this a mistake on Disney's part?

normally BTMRR is a walk on for the first hour or so I would not wast a FP on any thing until the park has been opened for at lest an hour.

Nope still open at 9AM.
