FastPass Policy - For Resort Guests Only

More people waiting in longer lines is not what Disney wants. People don't spend money when they are waiting in line whether they are on or off site guests.

There already is a preferential system, as a side effect at least. Resort guests can get FPs for most (not all) attractions during morning EMH when non-resort guests cannot. This is obviously a gigantic advantage for TSM.

Absolutely. EMH itself is a big exception to the "every guest is equal" philosophy. For that reason I'm not a big fan of it, but I know Disney feels they have to do it to fill the hotel rooms.

Glad you brought this up. While it's nice, it would be even better if the fast pass window would start at 8am, instead of 9am. Because what happens is resort guest who gets there at 8am, has to wait over an hour to get their next pass (non-resort guests have already arrived by that time). If the pass window would start at 8am, that would allow the resort guest to get more passes.

The pass window cannot open that early. There has to be a backoff time or the FP system wouldn't work right. So there is always at least a 30 minute delay between park open and the first FP window. Typically on EMH mornings it is 60 minutes.

It also will maintain a minimum backoff time - that is, the FP return window will never be sooner than, say, 30 minutes away. But if that's happening, FP likely isn't needed at the attraction anyways and the standby line would be even shorter than 30 minutes.

No because a resort guest would be able to accumulate fast passes and use them later in the day.

Just simply getting 1 fast pass for 9:10AM - 10:10AM is not enough for a resort guest.

I'm not referring to your desire to accumulate FP's faster. I'm saying that the FP system cannot issue FPs that start at the immediate time without having issues with the purpose of the FP system, resort guest or not.

I already said the resort guests get a huge advantage in that they can get a FP an hour before anyone else (and yes, generally only one, possibly 2), and get to pull them for a full hour before anyone else. I can see that that isn't enough an advantage for you though. :)

And I disagree with your assertion that getting 1 FP ahead of regular guests is a "huge" advantage!

On an individual resort guest basis, no, it isn't.

As a whole though for resort guests vs. non-resort guests, especially at TSM, it is a HUGE advantage. Ask a non-resort guest next time when the first available FP return time they can get at 9am is 2-3pm...

A non-resort guest shouldn't even be going to a park that had morning EMH. That's idiocy.

There are perfectly legit reasons for non-resort guests to go to a park that had a morning EMH. Getting good FP return times isn't one of them. :)

The majority of people who vacation at Disney World do not plan anything. Heck, 5 years ago, I didn't even know that Extra Magic Hours existed. Not being at the parks on those days would have been a complete coincidence.

I was just lucky that my Dad reads the back of maps, otherwise we wouldn't have known about Fast Pass either.

Well if getting good FP return times isn't one of them, then they shouldn't be complaining about the 3pm return times for TSM at 9am :thumbsup2

That's okay but people who don't plan will typically get crushed at Disney.

Why should it be all resort guests.......why not just Deluxe guests.or DVC guests.........or maybe all resort guests and all florida resid. and peole with shaved heads?????

It is plain not what WWHD.....

If you want a 2 class guest.and 2 basicly 2 long lines......then go the way the OP suggests.....but it will ruin WDW..:scared1:

AKK

Why do some people assume that they should receive so many extra perks just because they stay in a Disney hotel? There are other expensive hotels that don't necessarily provide perks of any sort and people seem OK with that. At WDW it's all about location plus as a PP pointed out not all of the onsite hotels are expensive.

Because if I spend $3K to stay at a Disney hotel, Disney gets $3K. If I spend $3K to stay at a non-Disney hotel or $1K for a cheaper one or camp out in Aunt Sarah's back yard... Disney gets none of that money. Disney has a vested interest in making it preferable to use their hotels. Whether it's Deluxe or Value, Disney would prefer I spent my money on their hotel and it's not unreasonable for them to offer incentives. :)

I think it would backfire. while lots of people stay onsite many do not.
resort guests already get the park for emh so for them to limit the fp for onsite would make many angry.
we always stay offsite and go to disney parks every trip. If i were to be penalized for staying offsite and lost use of fp i would lose interest in going. I mean really fp is how we get through the day with little waits. while i love Disney dh is not a huge fan so this is why we stay offsite so we are not too disneyed! not me for him!

This is a good point. People who stay in the deluxes are also the ones who typically spend more money for food and souvenirs.

The local Florida residents are almost positively not buying toys and may or may not be eating at an expensive place. So I don't really think Disney should be catering to them.

I do not know if one hour is advantage or not but I just wonder how do we survive our trips without rope drops, going in July, getting to the parks in afternoons and still collecting FPs.:confused3 Maybe, just maybe, too much strategy is not such a good idea. Just a thought.

Instead of not going, why not just book at a Disney Property?
