Fastpass+ if I change to offsite...

We are currently booked for a 7 night stay at Pop next May. We are planning to fly down if we can find reasonable priced airline tickets for our family of 4. I much prefer to stay on site if we fly due to transportation issues (really don't want to rent a car). We will continue to look for flights until close to our vacation, but if we end up driving, we thought about staying offsite instead. My question is, if I make my FP+ at 60 days with the intention to fly and stay onsite, then end up canceling when I am within 30 days of our vacation, will my FP+ be canceled. I realize they will be if I cancel more than 30 days out, but was wondering what would happen if it is within that 30 day window. We have booked room only and will buy tickets from UT to link to our MDE.

So I can book a hotel in order to take advantage of the 60 days of Fastpass reservations? ... but if I cancel the hotel reservation, my Fastpass times won't disappear? This seems like a good idea if I'm not staying on property.

As long as you have tickets that are separately linked and you cancel at 29 or less days out, your FPs do remain.

What happens to the magic bands that are sent to you if you cancel??

I assume that if the hotel reservation is booked separately from the park tickets, then they won't send you Magic Bands. This is just speculation, but seems right. Hopefully someone with more experience than me will have a definitive answer.

Thanks for the quick answers. How about this scenario: A room reservation for 4 people. Only 2 people have tickets showing on the MDE account. You receive 4 magic bands in the mail. 2 are assigned to the people who have park tickets showing in MDE. What happens to the other 2? Can you start a fictitious separate account and link them to 2 imaginary friends, bands to be used for 3 same day fast passes in parks? Disney does not charge you for any bands?

There is one magic band linked to each person on the room reservation. They cannot be linked to anyone else. It has nothing to do with having tickets or not.

If you had 4 names on a room-only reservation, you would receive 4 MagicBands. You wouldn't need a fictitious account for SDFPs.
