Fastpass Enforcement coming?

I didn't realise that you could go back later than the time stated on the fastpass. Typical, find out a handy tip just as it's coming to an end. I can see why they are wanting to do it though, if everybody saved all of the fastpasses till the end of the day the parks would never get to close.

But unless they are also getting exact counts of them, which they don't, they can only go by averages - which does not necessarily yield an accurate count either.

Going by the entry counters can only yield some ideas of what is going on, but not provide good accuracy as things can vary each day.

I can assure you that those responsible for the operation of the attractions are well aware of how and how many guests are moving through their areas each day. The numbers from the counters are the designated, accepted source of that information.

If everybody did that, they would have changed this a long, long time ago :)

Hey look, my patience is back for a short time. ;)

Your example is simplistic, and therefore your conclusion incorrect. If 1,000 FPs are issued with a return time of 2:00p - 3:00p, then it is logical to assume that the same number is issued during the next window, which is not 3:00p - 4:00p, but 2:05p to 3:05p. That means it is possible to have 2,000 people show between 2:05p and 3:00p and be completely within their window. In fact, to take this example to its extreme, as many as 12,000 people could show up in a particular 5 minute window and be perfectly legal, to any and all posters in this thread.

Excellent point, and, you are right, for simplicity's sake, I did reduce my example. But my point was that they do compare expected to actual usage by the hour. And, the number of FPs issued per window is not the same throughout the day. It has been adjusted to issue more/less per hour based on historic usage. So, they can see spikes (and valleys) and determine if usage is tracking with issuance (to some extent).

Which brings us again to the point that number of people aware of it increased since long, long ago.

I thought there were a number of reports of FP lines sitting empty at the end of the night a few pages back. :confused3

Now this is interesting. This is the first time I've ever heard someone mention that they actually do this (although it was always possible). So for instance, you know that there is a flood of people into the standby lines around 3:30-4:00pm, you could reduce the number of FPs issued for around that time, so the standby line flows a little more freely.

Of course, it begs the question - if the problem was with people using Fastpasses at the end of the night, why not just reduce the number of them issued for later in the night, instead of getting everyone's ears in a twist with a change in policy? :)

Is there anything official yet or are we still speculating?

It's official that on March 7, they will start enforcing FP return times. Pretty much everything else in this thread (particularly with regards to why Disney is making the change) is specualtion.

You mean report from member who was confused about what we even talking about and spoke of evening hours combining them with extra hours? I still try to digest what she was trying to say.

I don't recall that it was ever clarified that they really meant extra magic hours - and more than one person mentioned it as well.

Nah, there were several different posters who said this in the span of a page or two. One of them had a pretty high post-count too as I recall so I tended to think they knew what they were talking about.

Doesn't matter, but since I lurked through that portion I found it interesting as I honestly hadn't heard that or noticed it myself before.

She never clarified anything, as for others, there was also Chershire post, who presented quiet opposite report.
