We are heading to Disneyland for spring break for the first time in 3 years. Has the Fastpass system changed? Is it anything like WDW? Or is it still the old ticket machine system?

Thank you for your help!

It's still paper FP, and return times are strictly enforced. The only thing that's changed in 3 years is there are currently no "disconnected" rides in DCA, and only Buzz in DL. Shows are disconnected, but only WOC is currently using FP.

They tested RFID for 1 attraction for a day or 2. But guests still had to go to the attraction day of to get the FP.

Hmm doesn't seem like they gave it much of a chance.
Although with much of their guests being local they do end up being a huge influence and from what I saw the locals were not interested in a next gen fastpass.
Meanwhile me being used to MB's and FP+ now feel like I'm moving backwards going to DLR in June.

We don't know what they were testing. It could have been the scanners themselves. DLR isn't WDW. If go in expecting to replicate your WDW experiences, you'll likely leave disappointed.

This will be my second trip to DLR but the first one since the introduction to magic bands and fastpass+ at WDW.
I had my expectations up a bit too high when I went for the first time in June 2013 so I already am going in knowing it's fun but not WDW.

I'm a local BUT not this type. I AM SO looking forward for a big change but sadly it won't be changing that much. Whatever way it DOES change into will still be BETTER than what is current.

I think the current fast pass system works great. They just need to expand it to more rides. The WDW system would be awful for southern California residents who get up and decide they want to go to Dland today. That system is best left to tourist parks, not locals park like Disneyland.

As a local, I'm all for a system that merges the two. I'd love to see a system where you have to be in the parks to get fastpass (ticket activated) but you can book them on the app or at a kiosk.
This.
And getting rid of the paper. Seems such a waste.

I'd be good with that!
a centralized location or the convenience of your phone is better than running back and forth throughout the park to get a fastpass, do something else while waiting for the fastpass window, and then go back to the attraction and repeat.

dl noes not need fastpass+ like wdw. wdw has fewer rides per park so it has to micromanage the system with all the guests they have.. wdw should have built more rides instead of spending money on fastpass+ and china.. oh well
