I took a survey about the new Disney website interface yesterday. One of the things that was discussed was Fastpass 2.0. I signed a confidentiality form that I wouldn't discuss it but let's just say that a lot of people are going to be super angry when the press release about this comes out. Apparently this new system is set in stone, but I couldn't get a feel about when it will be rolled out. Don't be fooled by my low number of posts and think I'm a troll either. I keep losing my log-in info and have to re-register. I've been on these boards since the intercot days.

Ah, what the heck. This will be included as part of your multiday base ticket (there was no mention of APs). In order to get fastpasses you will need to pre-order them at least a month in advance and for 3 attractions a day only. This will be done entirely on-line. For example I'm going on a 4 day vacation and I'll be at MK on say July 14th, I can request FPs for Jungle cruise in the morning, Buzz in the afternoon and Peter pan in the evening and I will get those 3 rides with a 1-hour window. The walk-up FP will be gone. They will, however be adding many more rides to the new system. Additional FPs will be available as part of a ticket upgrade ($) sort of like no expiring or water parks and more. So for all of you mental overplanners this is right up your alley. For those of us who like to go with the flow, prepare to stand in line. I know way more but I've already said too much. I'll let you digest this.

This is a freaking awful idea on every level.

First it makes you pay for something that used to be free. Second who the heck has time to plan their vacation out to that much detail. I mean I usually have a general idea of what rides I wanna get a FP for, but ... what if a ride breaks down or a ride that usually has a long line has no line.... what if you have to come later in the day or leave early... This is insanity and will only make guests angrier. The only bonus I can think of is because of the decreased usage of FP the standby wait times would be shorter....

however I really don't think this rumor will come true.

I believe the idea might have been tossed around, but I don't think it will come into fruition.

However, I'm sure it would cut cost significantly.

I find it hard to believe that Disney would make the same mistake Universal made. When Universal ripped off Disney's FP idea and introduced Universal Express, it functioned much like FP. Now, though, it's either included with your room if you're staying at one of their properites, or available for a hefty additional cost. FP is perfectly fine and fair the way it is. Let's just hope these rumors are untrue.

The technicalities of this type of program make it VERY hard to believe and honestly I have ZERO belief it will come true.

I guess it could happen, but I tend to doubt it.

Disney does a lot of research and often survey guests on all kinds of things; some of which they have no intention of implementing. The idea of online FastPasses are intriguing on some level and I could see where they could give a percentage of them out in advance, but I doubt the walkup FP would go away anytime soon.

This move is certainly not in line with Disney's Customer(Guest) Centric philosophy, however we all have to remember Disney is a business and just like every other business they need to turn a profit. I can guarantee there is a significant cost associated with manitaining the current Fast Pass system between maintanance and supplies. From a business standpoint this change in the Fast Pass program makes perfect sense especially during the slow months where there is not a huge need from a Guest perspectic to use Fast Pass and even more business sense during the busy months because Guests are more likely to shell out extra cash for the privelage of using additional Fast Passes. Also from a business perspective this set up could in turn result in extra days spent in the parks by taking away the time saved by the current Fast Pass system.

I feel bad for annual passholders looks like this is yet another snub to their most valuable asset return guests.....

From a Guest perspective our park experience will be just like it was before the Fast Pass program that is of course once we get used to the new system.....

I don't doubt the validity of this acctually I can see this happening for as the brilliant business mind Vince McMahon says "it's all about the monnneeeeeyyyy" .

doesnt sound likely at all.

It doesnt really seem to offer any real benefit to disney other than attempting to benefit from the few people willing to buy FP off ebay currently.

The reverse side of that is that a day trip to disney becomes significantly less attractive.

Wouldn't be the first time...ah hem...park hoppers...ah hem...

Not sure I buy this one...Disney is only going to institute a change if they think it will (A) save them money, (B) make them more money, (C) enhance the guest experience or (D) all of the above.

I wouldn't put it past them limiting the # of FP, and having a second *pay* level for FP...though I would hate it, but undoubtably it would fall under (B) above.

What makes no sense is having people pre-order their FP on the web! How is this simpler / cheaper for them? They would have to have an entirely new system for distributing FP in addition to the current system (they could NOT eliminate day ticket people being able to get FPs). Not even uber-planners, of which I am one, would like this idea of having to get our FP way in advance.

I'll believe it when I see it. (Not saying you weren't surveyed on it, OP, but they've been surveying other FP options for years now.)

This just sounds awful. I don't even think people on the DIS plan that detailed. Think about the other, less disney geeks, visitors.
Not going to happen. Universal completely killed lines when they started having the pay for plan.

Too many holes in this posting:

1) On a "survey", they told you that this new, highly confidential system is "set in stone"? Never heard of that.

2) If so, why hasn't anyone else who has taken this survey confirmed it?

3) Keep losing log-in info? Your first posting in June 2008 gave a different excuse -- that you had re-registered under a different name to fool your wife.

4) While there are often rumors about on-line fast-passes, limiting them to people who obtain them a month in advance is, frankly, absurd. There are so many holes in this -- how do they deal with APs, the alienation of short-range planners, how they deal with people who have 10-day tickets that are used over a period of years, how they link up a FP to a ticket in the first place, and so on.

5) The way you doled out info reeks of a fake -- first a post that says nothing except "I know a big secret," feeling compelled to justify your low post count with an excuse that is contrary to your other excuse about the same, then 90 minutes later saying "here's some details but I know a lot more," etc. Seems like an attention-getting scheme.

Disney has done a good job of researching on how guest flow works in lines. I've noticed different techniques they have used in their queue systems and that they have worked very well. Limiting the Fastpasses is not going to help flow at all. Over the past year, we've seen Disney throw a barrage of marketing/ticket deals that make people want to go the parks. This Fastpass plan that you have proposed goes against what Disney wants to do right now:make money. Don't see this happening.

Why would Disney want to mess with a system that works quite well for them now? When people are standing in line, they are not buying food or souveniers. Dead time for guests is dead time for Disney as well.

FP gets people off the lines and spending money.

I don't believe this rumor at all.

You know I hate to say it but I think Disney is stupid enough to do it. It's not cheap going to Disney let alone nickle & dime everything . It's almost like they don't want you to come. I do get it especially with this economy:sad2:

I signed a confidentiality form that I wouldn't discuss it

Ah, what the heck.

I am not a lawyer, but I would think that having an individual sign a confidentiality form provides a company assurance, through threat of a lawsuit, that whatever they don't want released will not be released, and if that information does get released, the signed confidentialty form will demonstrate to the courts that the individual knew that they were not to release the information yet did so anyway. No company would go to the trouble of having individuals sign a confidentiality form if they had no intention to pursue those individuals, by way of the courts, if the information was released.

I say this story has some big holes to overcome before I will even consider believing it.
