I know I have seen a thread like this before, but I just did an advanced search and can't seem to put in the right string of words to bring back what I'm looking for.

Here's the deal, we were lucky enough to get the AP4 rate for our upcoming trip, 11/30, 12/1 and 12/2. It will be the first trip for my Mom, my Sister and my 5 yo Nephew. We'll be staying at the PPH. The biggest worry for me is my Mom. She's pretty overweight and out of shape and she had knee surgery a few months ago. I have been asking her to walk every day or couple of days to get into a little better shape and used to the walking, but she won't. I suggested a wheel chair or an ECV, but she refused. I am really worried she is going to have a horrible time and ruin the experience not only for herself but for my Sister and Nephew as well.

So...what is the fastest way to get from the PPH to the gates at either DL or DCA? We are normally there an hour to 30 minutes early, but we're fast walkers. I am worried she won't be. I really like to take advantage of EE, but worry about getting my Mom out there too, is the Monorail a good option?

Thanks in advance for any input and safe travels to all leaving soon!

The quickest way is to cross the street and go through the lobby of the GCH. You can then either use the private entrance to DCA, or go into DTD and into the Esplanade for the DL gates.

The monorail is a great option for less walking to get to DL from the PPH. If you go out the back of the PPH, it's about a 5 minute walk to the monorail station.

Getting to DCA is easy from PPH. Just walk across the street into the GCH, walk straight through the lobby, and follow the signs to the private DCA entrance.

You would also want to go through the GCH and through their private entrance to DTD if you want to go through the front gates of DL, but this would add about 4-5 minutes of walking for your mom.

I have to say that with all the walking you do in the parks, which can even be hard on the legs, knees, and feet of people who don't have any physical problems, I really don't think your mom will be able to tour the parks with you without using a wheelchair or ECV. The walk from the PPH to and from the parks is just a teeny-tiny portion of all the walking you'll all be doing. Please try to talk her into a wheelchair or ECV so she won't be miserable and make all of you miserable too.

She's overweight, out of shape, she just had knee surgery a few months ago, she won't walk to try to strengthen herself and her stamina for the trip, and she won't use a wheelchair or an ECV?!?!? What's her deal?!?!?:sad2:

Disneyland is approximately 85 acres and Cal Adv 58 acres. You need her to either build up her endurance before the trip or rent an ECV while there. A wheelchair would mean you pushing her all day and that will make you tired. I work out regularly but still can become tired after pushing my daughter in her wheelchair all day at the parks. You have to navigate through crowds which works your arms more. The fastest route to the parks are as explained in previous posts. Inquire with the hotel to see if you can rent an ECV in advance and have it there when you check in, but they may only provide wheelchairs. Otherwise, ECV rentals are just inside the main entrances of either park. Good luck.

Danger and Super-Mom....exactly what street do you cross to get so easily to GCH? :confused3

Does that involve going out the front entrance of PPH? We just always went out the back, towards the DTD signs, and crossed some street then went through DTD.

One day we tried to get back to PPH from DCA through GC and got SO turned around. Ended up getting directions from a DVC shill, LOL, and that's how we got our appointment with them and the $50 gift certificate. ;)

Because we never figured out how else to get out, but through DTD, it caused quite a bit of annoyance, dealing with the "I want its" from the kiddo...:upsidedow

Sorry, chiming in. Yes, you go out the front and cross at the crosswalk that takes you to the entrance to the GCH. Its actually really fast to go that way. Of couse, then you get "I want its" about staying at the GCH next time. (Finally did it Sunday night and it was soooo worth it for us!)

Whoa, you guys did some walking, didn't you?!

To get to DCA, you go out the front entrance of PPH, go left to the corner crosswalk, cross the street, walk in the front doors of GCH, walk straight through the lobby and out the back door, walk past Storytellers cafe and the GCH pool, turn right and you'll see the security checkpoint and private entrance to DCA, walk through the private entrance and you come out next to Grizzly River Run. You never even get a peek at DTD going this way.

Also getting to DL using the monorail would have saved you from walking by most of the stores in DTD too. You mainly would just see the ESPN Zone, Rainforest Cafe, and the AMC theatre.

Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes. At least you'll know all this next time you go, although your little one might be past the "I want its" stage by then.

The monorail was the other issue, in that it was "down" every time we went by except for one...and that was on our way BACK to PPH, and it kind of lets you off far too close to the Lego store, letting off another "I wan' go IN THERE" from the Boy-o.

Yessiree we did some walking. And I *thought* I was going the correct way until I got back and saw other posts...before we went there I just couldn't visualize the layout, and even once there we were having some problems with it. We just wanted to get to the parks every day,not mess around with getting turned around.

Thanks for the extra directions!!!

When we were there I was longing for a golf cart that could at least take us from DLH as far as the parking trams dropped off...
