Faster way from Orlando - Ocala

I was wondering is it faster to get to Ocala, Florida to get on I75 North from the Florida Turnpike, or is it faster to go on Interstate 4 towards Tampa & get on the Interstate 75 North ramp to Ocala in that area?

If you mean from WDW to Ocala, it's faster to go FL Turnpike to I-75. There's also a new toll road from the WDW area to the Turnpike - do a search on Western Way on this forum. My folks live in Ocala and we drive there when we go to WDW, it takes about an hour and 20 minutes from WDW.

This Ocalan says 'great advice'! There is also a toll-free way to take SR 535 to SR 50 to the turnpike. It was a 'shortcut/timesaver' a WDW bus driver told us about a few years ago. I think I need to check out your advice on the alternate route

In any case, just don't ask my DH how long it takes from WDW to Ocala when I drive home :rotfl:

Fastest and easiest way is Western way to 429 north to FL Tpke to 75 north.

DO NOT TAKE 50. That's VERY bad advice. I work on 50 right near 535, and it's a lot of congestion, lots of stop and go traffic. You would go right past my office between 535 and the Tpke. I drive 13.6 miles to and from work, the last three are on Route 50, and those three miles can take as long as the other 10 or so miles.

To the OP:

I apologize for my VERY bad advice.

I guess we've been really lucky. We've been traveling that way for 8 years, several times a month, without any problem at all. A little stop and go traffic on occasion, nothing that's ever added more than 2 or 3 minutes to the ride. I wish I could say that for some of the toll backups we've dealt with. As for taking 50, it's an easy route to explain, recognizable landmarks, no tolls. If you get 'lost', help is easy to find-and some people (as in my direction-challenged friends) appreciate that fact.

I'm not sure what the tolls are on the toll road route previously posted, but I'm one of those who prefers not to pay any more tolls than I have to-Sunpass or not. That doesn't mean I'm not going to check it out on one of our next trips. Any way that gets me to Disney is an A+ in my book.

I also think it pays to have an alternate route-especially if you're not familiar with the roads. The preferred route may be closed or severely delayed. Knowing an alternate may save a LOT of time in the end.

Perhaps that makes the VERY bad advice not so bad at all. JMHO
