Fast pass

Here's a link to everything you could want to know about FastPass:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/fastpass.htm

Disney FASTPASS allows guests to make 'reservations' for a particular ride to avoid waiting in long lines. As you approach an attraction that uses the FASTPASS system, you will see three lines. One is the FASTPASS distribution line (where you can make your reservation), the second is the FASTPASS entrance (when you're returning to ride after making your FASTPASS reservation), and the third is the Standby entrance. Each line will have a clock noting the window of time during which you can return to the attraction with no further wait if you select the FASTPASS option.

Little tips for using FP: Have one person in your party collect all the park passes and stand in line to get FPs instead of everybody waiting. You might want to mark each person's name on their park pass so they get the right one back after a FastPass run.

FPs for Soarin' run out quickly, so when you enter Epcot in the morning, have someone run immediately to Soarin' to get FPs for the group. Wait times right after rope drop tend to be shorter, so you could actually ride it, and by the time you get out, your FP time might be up, and you can ride it again with minimal wait. Then check the FP return time after your second ride to see if you might want to get another set of FPs and come back later.

Keep your park pass and FP slips together in a place that will be dry and safe during the day - one of these 97-cent lanyards from WalMart is a great option:

This may not work during PEAK times...but I understand the following about FP:

The ride reservation "window" of time is good beyond it's time....if you have a FP but miss your opportunity window....still go to the ride. They should still let you in. I have witnessed people throwing away a FP that they thought would not work....

Just a bit of advice.

Also- you can only technically hold one FP at a time.....when it is used or expired you can get another one.

For a bit of an update... you can actually legitimately hold more than one fastpass at a time. If you check the fine print on the passes, it should say "You can get another fastpass at X", where X is either 2 hours in the future, or the time that your return window opens, plus 5 minutes, whichever comes sooner. And the CM's tend to let you use your ticket a reasonable time after the window closes.

I respectfully disagree with both points.

I would advise that if you want to ride you should return during your fast pass window. We once missed our ride time window by about 20 minutes and were not allowed to use the FP at MGM for Star Tours. More recently we were behind groups at two separate times on two separate attractions that were not allowed to use "expired" fast passes. So if you legitimately miss your window it can't hurt to try and use it but I would not recommend this as a strategy esp on an attraction you really want to ride.

Also - you can hold more than one FP at a time especially if the wait times are long. The FP will tell you on the bottom when you can obtain a new pass, your current one doesen't have to be either used or expired.
