Do you have to have purchased your tix in order to book fast passes? We were planning on buying our tix through and outside vendor about a month before we go but did not know if we needed tix linked to our MDE in order to book. We do have a room reservation already booked.
Yes, you have to have tickets bought and loaded in MDE to make FP+.
All your room reservation does is allow you to book FP+ at 60 days rather than 30 days. That is assuming you are booked at Disney hotel, or one of the partner hotels that get 60 days (in 2018 only for now).
Yo udon't need a room reserved, but you must have tickets linked to your MDE account. You can book Fps at 60 days if you are staying on grounds or a "favored hotel", otherwise at 30 days.
They have to be bought and linked before you can make fast passes but as long as you do that you can buy your tickets from an outside vendor, I had no problem setting up my fast passes at 60days and my tickets came from parksavers.
