I am not planning a trip, however, my DS & his girlfriend are going in September. They are staying at Pop and have their fast passes booked and are all set to go. They are very excited to go as she hasn't been since she was in 3rd grade, now 22. DS has been 4 times with us and his HS senior trip but so looking forward to going with his girlfriend. They are awaiting their magic bands. Girlfriends brother and his girlfriend are going in September as well, also staying at Pop. Trip was booked same week as a coincidence, not traveling together. They will have their own schedules, etc.. Okay, now to the question....DS's girlfriend said her brother received fast pass cards. They are onsite at Pop, so thought magic bands were automatic for onsite guests?

Yes I am pretty sure MagicBands are sent to all onsite guests unless you request otherwise. Not sure what "fastpass cards" are. Maybe if you bought tickets from a third-party seller?

She said they went through a travel agent. DS & his GF booked theirs through WDW. She said it was like a credit card. Who knows?

Somewhere in this chain of "telephone", I'd be willing to bet someone has misunderstood something. For one, there is nothing I know of called a "fast pass card". It may simply be a standard RFID-enabled ticket card, which can access FPs as well as any MagicBand.

Yes, MBs are included as part of any onsite stay.

I think they have cards because some people can't wear the RFID bands (because of pacemakers). Maybe they accidentally checked a box requesting that option??

DS's GF still lives home as does her brother, so she saw the "cards". I will have to find out more and will let everyone know what I find out. As @PollyannaMom said, perhaps something was checked/unchecked and they are getting cards instead of the magic band.

Thanks all....just curious minds wanting to know :)

This isn't complicated or a mystery.
Thousands of guests use the "credit card" tickets for park entry and FP purposes.

The unknown quantity here is the travel agent being involved.
She said they went through a travel agent.

Robo, I lurk over here more than post as we do not have a trip planned. Haven't been since 2012, prior to the new FP. I value your insight and knowledge! I thought magic bands were "the" thing and if staying onsite, that is what you received. The only difference with the 2 trips is that one couple used a travel agent, the other going through Disney Travel. What do we know! LOL.

Thanks

And, to fill in some blanks,
if the guests who have the plastic cards DO actually want MBs, they will be able to get them.
They can have the travel agent contact WDW and order the MBs, or, if not resolved before the trip,
they should be able to pick up MBs at the resort front desk.
