Fast pass question

This will be my first trip since fast pass changed to fast pass plus. Do you need a disney online account to make fast pass reservations at the kiosk in the park or can you just scan your Magic band? If you are linked to someone else's online account will you still be able to use the kiosk on your own without the person who controls the online account?
