In the slower months like Sept/Oct, do you need to get Fast passes for anything? Is it that busy? I tend to not go on roller coasters, etc. I guess Soarin' would be the only thing i would need one for, if i need one at all, right?
What do you think? thanks!

We use them when we see the need.

Sometimes attractions simply won't have the FP machines operating if the crowds and standby lines don't warrant them.

Its not really something that you need to worry about in advance, as you can easily determine which you'll need on the day (and time of day) you are there.

Each park offers (at least) one central "message board" where you can see the Standby wait times, the status of FPs and other stats for every major attraction in that park.

You can check these boards before going off to an attraction for a FP.

MK- the Hub area, near Crystal Palace
Epcot- near the Fountain (and on the M:S side of FW)
MGM- Near Starring Rolls Cafe
DAK- At the main junction from the bridge from the Oasis as you enter the loop around Tree of Life.

I guess it depends on the crowds when you are there. We go in mid-October. The more popular rides are quite crowded (an hour or more wait by afternoon). We arrive by opening and beat the crowds, but still use the fastpass. Even if the mid-morning wait is 30 mins., you can ride using fastpass in 5 mins.

We have always been in January, not the busiest of times and we always take advantage of FP. I don't do coasters either, but there are enough non-coaster rides w/ FP option. We always FP splash mountain because it always tends to have a huge line. Sometimes we get a FP at a ride after going thru the short SB line if it is a favorite and we would like to come back later on to ride it again. I can't imagine not taking advantage of the FP feature and being able to do WDW in an enjoyable manner. It really makes it possible to do everything w/o much wait when you learn how to utilize it.

We've been for the past 3 Septembers (week after Labor Day) and have rarely seen the fastpass machines operating. We've yet to use them. The standby lines are usually short enough.

You can make your decision once you get there. All attractions with FastPasses will have posted (1) the stand by time and (2) the FastPass return time. Then you decide for yourself which would best fit into your schedule at that time. Also, if the FastPass machines are covered and not operating, then no, you don't need a FastPass.
