Basically, you insert your park ticket and it prints a slip a paper which allows you to return at a designated time. It gives you an hour window, e.g. you may return anytime between 9:00 and 10:00. When you come back at the appropriate time, you show your fastpass to the CM at the fastpass return and head to the front via a separate line. I have never waited more than 5 minutes using my fastpass. The only catch is that you may not get another fastpass until about an hour or so after your current one has been printed. It says when another is available on your fastpass.
