Absolutely! The only film that even comes close is The Passion.

Are you being serious? The best film in recent history?

Yes, and I'm very hard to entertain. Even if you are a conservative and know it won't change your vote, it's worth seeing.

When I saw it at the theatre, everyone left in silence-- thinking about it, instead of discussing it, like everyone left in tears after The Passion.

Didn't you find it odd, given the title that there was no footage of the Twin Towers? I wonder why that was.

Umm, it opened up with people running from them falling.....

I would say, just as you feel you have a right to your opinion, so did the fella at Blockbuster. I think "verbally attacking" you is a little bit melodramatic, based on your description of what he said. Verbally annoying you maybe.

Fahrenheit 911 the best movie in recent history? You can't be serious, and you can't be that hard to entertain if that's your opinion.

Much better than Titanic. I hated Titanic.

Carry on.

Of course, it is just as much (or more) a fiction than all of these films you mentioned...:smooth:

I sympathize with the OP after my exchange with the cashier at a Borders bookstore. I was buying my DH the new Jon Stewart book because he was in the hospital recuperating after surgery and the cashier became all snippy with me when I asked a question about the cafe. I looked at him oddly, and then he said "Oh, sorry. It's just that I don't LIKE that book." I replied that he didn't have to LIKE it, but he did have to sell it to me.

I used to work in a bookstore and if I had said something like that the management would have definitely reprimanded me. And if I had done it to an undercover buyer reporting back to the company, I could have gotten fired. Someone reveals something about themselves when buying a book, or renting a video, and booksellers who really want to sell books are sensitive to that.

Did he have the right to say something to you. Hell yeah, but that doesn't mean it was smart business.

And, yes, much better than Titanic.

But no footage of the towers burning or the planes hitting the bulidings?

Why the need. Seeing that is very painful for some of us. The way he did it was very affective IMO. We've seen the towers burning several times. Why does he have to do it the same way everyone else has?

Because this isn't an image you've seen before? Really? Seriously? Really? It isn't burned into every American's memory? And, that being the case, might a filmmaker not chose to capture this moment from the streets themselves, recording the sheer terror of those closest to this situation? Might not that better capture the horror of the moment?

An effective critique comes about through the analysis of one's experience. In other words, see the film if you want to make an adequate contribution.

I've seen people running from the buildings, too. I've seen the images of Bush at the elementary school. I've seen images of War in iraq. What's your point?

If he wanted to capture the horror of the moment, why not people jumping from the towers?

I just don't understand why he has to. The screen is black but you hear it, you see it n your head.

Why does he have to show it?

To be perfectly honest, I think the cashier was wrong. I offer my opinion on a movie if I have seen it and it's good (for example, a customer rented Office Space today and I gushed), or if a customer specifically asks if I thought it was bad/good. I bit my tongue at the people renting F 9/11 this week - luckily no one beyond my co-workers asked my opinion. ;)

For the record, though - we didn't get our copies of the movie to sell until today for some reason. We had the renters, but not the ones you could buy.

Why not? Why show the graphic pictures of the war in Iraq, but not the graphic pictures of the event that is in the title of his movie? (he asked, rhetorically)

(I think we all know the answer to this)

I think Mr. Moore chose not to show the Towers out of respect for the families and the sensitive folks it would bother.

Now, when you make YOUR movie, you can show whatever you choose to. ::yes::
