FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

We are AP holders but got the package with a one day ticket to get the free dining. The question I have is since alcohol is not included in the dining plan (which I don't have a problem with) can we use the DDE to get the discount on the glass of wine since we'd have to pay for it out of pocket? I'm presuming the answer is yes but don't know for sure.

Can anyone answer how the HDDR is being handled with alcohol? Do you pay seperately for this?

unlimited beer & wine are included in the cost of the HDDR. I can't see where you'd pay extra for that.

yes, you still give the cc number, but they don't charge it at all unless you are a no show.

Nora

this is true--just make sure they don't charge the card. Mine was for our deposit on the HDDR. It was not a big deal to get the charge taken off at all, just something to be on the lookout for :)

Thank you so much for your answer. I went to the Mousesavers website and indeed it did say you could use table service credit for counter service. If it is on Mousesavers, I feel the information is correct as well. Thanks again for your reply.

I did not realize this was the case at all--I know it isn't the best use of the plan from a money standpoint, but I am finding myself with some table service credits left over and I wasn't sure what to do about that.

What is the procedure for using the credits that way--do you tell the CM when you order, I guess?

Hi - Not sure if this specific question has been addressed in this thread. I've read most of it and haven't found the answer. I'm scheduled for MYW plus dining in September. Myself, dh, ds (3) and dd(almost 2). Well - I guess it was stupid of me - but I didn't realize that dd will NOT be getting meals for free. When they read back to me everything that is included, they said - 2 meals and one snack a day for everyone. So I had no idea that she was getting nothing included. I just spoke with CM and they told me that there is no way to even add on a kids' meal plan for a 1 year old. She's not a baby- she eats (sometimes a lot - sometimes nothing - just like most toddlers) - and I'm sure in many cases we can split meals and just buy extra fruit on the side. BUT- I'm curious if anyone has found an inexpensive way to get meals for an 'infant' through the plan?

I'm really disappointed because I was planning on budgeting close to nothing for food - but paying for one extra meal (or just extra side items) each time we eat- that will add up. Still a good deal, but I'm disappointed.

Thoughts?
THANKS!
Karen

Before you get to upset about it...you should wait and see how much everyone is eating..Have you looked over some of the menues on allears?...from the looks of it there will be ALOT of food between you, dh an ds (3) that the almost 2 yo should have plenty to eat. They have to make some sort of allowances for those under 3 since you CAN'T purchase the food plan for them...Do kids 3 and under eat free with adult food purchases? I don't know I haven't looked into it...as my kids are 7 and older...but I would think Disney has some sort of 3 and under meal allowance.

But you should really look at the amount of food even you and your husband will be getting. At a TS both of you will be able to order an appitizer, main dish (with sides) dessert and beverage...that adds up to alot of food...two appitizers alone is alot at some places. My family is planning on taking advantage of the amount of food....and sharing at places...to be able to eat more offten...just a little less each time.

I was told by CRO that you have up until 5 days before your arrival date to add the dining plan.

I have one more question - Do you know if you have to use a credit card to book other ps's or just the crt. I was thinking about the crystal palace and the donald breakfastsarous at a.k.

Thanks

it just seems like way too much food for us.
We never eat dessert with our meals, nor an appetizer.
At sit down meals we have an entree and a soft drink.
For counter service we just have a sandwich and a drink, if that much.
Usually we have cereal in our hotel room for breakfast (if we're not staying concierge, which we aren't this time).

It just seems like way to much food, especially when we're going to be there for 14 days.

Are you required to buy it for your entire stay?

yes, you are required to purchase the dining plan for your entire stay.

If you want the dining plan for just a few days you could book two linked stays. One as a package with tickets and dining (you can buy any length ticket) and then do a room only reservation before or after it (or both).

I assume your dates are not within the free dining dates.

No CC needed for those. Only for HDDR, CRT, FDP, and Mickey's BBBq

Hi Jen,
Thanks for the cc info it will help while I'm debating on my p.s.'s
If you have been before - what character breakfast/dinners would you reccommend!!

Thanks

Karen,

When my family went to Disney last March 04', DS was 2 for half of the trip and turned 3 while we were there. When I booked the trip, and made my PS for various restaurants/character meals, I informed the CM who took the call that during "such and such", my DS is 2, and during another meal, he will be 3. I felt that honesty was the best policy - after all it is Disney. Well, with hindsight being 20/20, I should have left made all my PS stating that he was still 2 as children under 3 ate for free, at table service meals anyway. At all the TS meals we went to prior to him turning 3, his meal (from the children's menu) was free (stated on the receipt), then when he was 3, I was charged for a children's meal. Now normally this would not have been an issue, but I had to pay BIG BUCKS at the Princess Breakfast in Norway and at Chef Mickeys and Cape May Cafe (the latter 2 being buffets) for my 3 year old who I was lucky if he ate a couple of sausages and chunks of fruit at the breakfast, and a hot dog and a couple of tablespoons of mac & cheese at the buffets. Talk about a waste of money! I know at lot of Disney dining is supposed to be about "ambiance" as well as food, but come on!, between $11.99 and $9.99 for a few morsels of food was ridiculous.

For our next trip, I added the MYW w/Dining option as the prices sound worth it - after all now that DS is 4, he even eats a whole hot dog! My DD7 will do just fine eating off of the children's menu - and she is my adventurous one, so she can also try any food that DH and I order. I figure with some crafty planning, we should be able to play around with our dining credits and hardly pay out-of-pocket for any additional expenses for food. One can only hope.

Lori

Hi all,

We are currently thinking about using the dining plan for the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. How does this work with the dining plan - I know it is 2 TS credits, but you used to get tickets to these shows. I have not been to one in several years - has it changed? I know I will probably have to secure with a cc, but do I just take my cc and dining plan card with me? Just checking!! :confused3 Has anyone done this yet???

I haven't been yet, but we will be there in 20 days :cheer2: :cloud9: :goodvibes :flower: :sunny: :Pinkbounc  :bounce: :lovestruc Can ya tell I'm excited? :teeth: We will be doing 1900 Park Faire for dinner, Donald's Breakfastosaurus, and Crystal Palace for Breakfast. I'll let you know what I think :)

I too think it's ALOT of food..That's why we have decided to sit down and look over the menues of the TS places that were wanting to go to and select what we would select (not appitizer, entree and desert...but actually what we would think of ordering if we were just out to eat)...and compair cost...You figure if one meal every day is going to come close to the $35pp mark...it's worth going for the meal plan...even if your allowed alot more food that you'd actually eat. Just because your allowed to order 3 plus corses...doesn't mean you have to. ....But anyway back to my point...if our meal at CRT is going to run us each $25+...you toss in a snack durring the day and lunch or dinner...and I think were over the $35 cost of the plan itself. I don't know...that's why were going to check out the menus and plot out which is best for us. :teeth:

I can see how it would definitely be a super great deal for most people..
I just don't see us in that group..
but i'm happy to have seen this thread so that i could figure it out...

We made reservations for Spirit of Aloha for July and told the CM we have Dining Plan. She took our CC number but will not be charging the card since we have the plan. I guess they still need the number in case you don't show up. Then, they would charge your card.
