Fantasyland rides closed temporarily due to smoke

I was wondering why some rides like Space Mountain shut down. Looks like Pinocchio wanted to do some BBQ. Not the best idea if you're completely made out of wood...

The very first ride we ever went on during our very first visit to DL was Pinnochio. My kids were 1 and 4 at the time and they were both crying from fear when the ride was done. Oops! :sad2:

DL FD is keeping busy this week, first the fire at DCA and now this... Glad they're on top of things and get to it quick.

It was funny seeing the news reports from later in the day. You can tell just how empty the park is right now. The helicopter footage was particularly keen to showing this.

just curious--does anyone know how high the peter pan boats are off the ground? I know a friend of mine (who used to work the ride many years ago) told me that if the ride shut down the CMs use poles to push the boats to the end where you get off--but if there really was an emergency I'm wondering how far a drop it is?

I was there! I was cutting though Fantasyland while taking pictures and it was EMPTY except for a million CMs and suits. It actually was really cool and I got some great pictures of the Tea Cups. The article says people were waiting for the rides, but when I went through, they were doing their best to keep the area cleared - I didn't see anyone milling and waiting. The CM did say it was a power outage and no word on whent he rides would re-open, so that discouraged most people.

I didn't smell any smoke.

BUT, the day before, we were in line for the Matterhorn. There was a very strong smell of burning oil or brakes, so strong I was seriously considering not riding because it just smelled like something was wrong. A few minutes later, the ride went down. At first, the CMs just made an announcement that it was down and that if you wanted to continue to wait in line, you could, but they didn't know when it would be back up. Not 30 seconds later, they announced that they were clearing the queue and they unloaded everyone who was in the sleds. We went back a few hours later and it was up and running.

So, yup, things happen.

Hey, we were there too! Got the same line about power outage no mention or smell of smoke in Fantasyland.

AND...my girls were on the Matterhorn for their second round and got off and back into the 5 minute line when they announced first that the ride was temporarily halted, but to stay in line if you'd like....then just a few minutes later they announced they were clearing the que. We went and rode IASW came back and it was open again. My girls had said that it smelled funny, but they couldn't describe the smell other than icky, lol.

We were also on Indiana Jones Thursday and it broke down and we had to get off and walk out. It was pretty cool, lol.

The worst though was the fireworks being stopped literally mid-song and cancelled because of high winds. That was a total bummer.

A couple other rides were closed earlier in the day for high winds...Jumping Jellies and the Silly Symphony.

They have seemed to have a lot of rides "temporarily closed" this trip....I don't recall it being this often on other trips.

So the article said that Mr. Toad had already been closed for a temporary refurbishment, but the schedule doesn't show it going down until Monday. Is it already down??

It closed for refurb on Monday, Nov 29th. We rode it several times on Sunday the 28th because we knew it was going down the next day.

For some odd reason it's not showing closed this weekend or the other weekends in December on the calendar....but it does show it's closed each Monday-Friday, lol. Looks like someone forgot to update the weekends, lol.

I'm remembering 14 feet...think it was in one of the Disneyland books showing construction.

So funny! What side were they on? We were on the right side and first they unloaded one family and told them to just stand at the loading area. Another family was in the sled just about to go in the tunnel...they were still in there when we left.

I keep hoping for that to happen to us, just once, but no such luck (?) yet.

.

I noticed that, too. And we always go off season, low crowd times, so expect things to be in refurbishment (is that a word, lol), but this was crazy the number of rides temporarily closed. We've never seen it like this. We figured the rides must have gotten a lot of wear and tear from the busy Halloween season.
