Is there a requirement for a vaccine, if so, do they accept mixed vaccines?
See
DCL's know before you go page for the current status:
https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/why-cruise-disney/experience-updates/ and specifically for sailing from the US:
https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/why-cruise-disney/experience-updates/us/
Currently, "
For all sailings, Guests 12 years of age and older must be fully vaccinated at the time of sailing and take a COVID-19 test upon embarkation. Guests 11 years old and under are not required to be vaccinated but must take a pre-trip NAAT test, rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test for COVID-19, as well as a rapid COVID-19 test upon embarkation. Learn more below."
As noted by a previous poster, the DCL considers mixed vaccines (any compbo of FDA-approxed or WHO-approved vaccines) as "fully vaccinated", however, DCL does not or at least has not updated their webpage to reflect the CDC's current acceptance of mixed doses -- unlike ALL the other major cruise lines !!
This is what DCL currently (as of Nov 5 2021) says about what DCL considers fully vaccinated:
Please note our guidelines per the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
- Guests who have received both doses of Moderna, Pfizer or AstraZeneca are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the second dose has been administered.
- Guests who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving one dose.
- Guests with both one dose of Moderna and one dose of Pfizer are considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the second dose.
- Guests who have received one single dose of a vector vaccine (e.g., AstraZeneca) and one single dose of an mRNA vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna) are not considered fully vaccinated.
Is there a requirement to have Covid Insurance (or is it just a good idea)?
I believed they dropped this requirement. It is a good idea. Well, travel medical insurance is always a good idea, and travel cancelation/interuption insurance may be a good idea dependign on your risk tolerance.
Is there a requirement for getting on or off the ship for a Covid test?
Yes.
Pre-Trip COVID-19 Testing: Guests 11 years of age and younger are not required to be vaccinated but must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (paid for by the Guest) taken between 3 days and 24 hours before your sail date. The test should be a rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted. In order to sail, all unvaccinated Guests must upload their proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results on the Safe Passage website. A parent or legal guardian will need to use their own account to provide this information on behalf of minors.
Embarkation COVID-19 Testing: All Guests, regardless of age and vaccination status, are required to take a COVID-19 test (paid for by Disney Cruise Line and administered by Inspire Diagnostics) at the terminal before boarding. Guests with positive COVID-19 test results, including those in their travel party, will be denied boarding.
Back-to-Back Sailings: All Guests on consecutive, back-to-back sailings, regardless of age and vaccination status, will be required to undergo a COVID-19 test administered by Inspire Diagnostics at the terminal after debarking the ship following their first cruise and before reboarding the ship for their second cruise.
We are going in March, but I guess we can only plan based on today's requirements. I don't know if I can afford Covid insurance and the testing. We're coming from Canada (and have mixed vaccines to top it off), so all the extras might cost more than the cruise for 5 people.
Keep in mind that currently Canada has an "Avoid All Travel" warning for cruise travel. Because of this, most (but not all; be very very careful with any policy you purchase to be absolutely sure!) Canadian travel medical insurance and travel cancellation/interruption/etc insurance will NOT cover ANY cruise travel. That is they will not cover any aspect of any trip that includes a cruise. Also, even if they do cover the cruise, they may not cover covid or anything to do with covid. So you need to be very careful with any insurance product you are buying right now to ensure you understand exactly what it does and does not cover and that it will actually cover your specific trip.
The insurance DCL sells obviously does cover the cruise, but you would want to make sure it covers covid. And note that its medical limits are VERY VERY VERY low, especially from a Canadian perspective where we are normally advised to have travel medical insurance that covers for $5 to $10 million dollars of coverage. DCL's medical coverage is in the thousands.
Also, currently, if you FLY to the US, the US requires negative covid tests to enter the US. And Canada requires negative covid tests to return back to Canada. Those tests have to be taken within specific timeframes. Those testing requirements may or may still be in place by the time you travel.
Also, our credits are only usable until Sept 2022, right? No further extensions?
I believe that is the case. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in.
