Fantasy Verandahs

I took these from the balcony of cabin 10504 of the Dream in May/June.

We have stayed Deck 10 on Dream and Fantasy and loved the overhang due to the awesome shade it provides. We stay forward on Starboard so we are under the Spa/Rainforest and have not had trouble with noise...in fact, the hallways are quiet because there is no need to go that far on Deck 10 unless you are staying there or an officer getting to the Bridge of course. Which is pretty neat...sometimes we run into the Captain and the officers as we are coming and going. We like cabins 10500, 10504 and 10506.

10512 and 10514 are a miserable hell hole of weight dropping and slamming doors overhead. 10516 and 10518 were the same way, as confirmed by our neighbors. Just one part of my review of this room went as follows: "I wouldn’t recommend this room to anybody unless they’re either dead, deaf, sleep so soundly that a lumber truck driving through a nitro glycerine factory wouldn’t wake them up or love to get up to work out before the sun comes up."

The rooms you were in are actually across the hall from the Concierge Host office as well. We saw PJ all the time on our ill-fated deck 10 cruise.

That sounds like a horrible experience, but I really like your description. :) Very colorful. We saw Captain Thord frequently and had a clear view of the bridge, which we found pretty awesome. Our next cruise (in 3 weeks, 5 days on Dream) we are in cabin 10500. And the cruise after that we are staying in 10504 again. If we found these cabins unavailable, we would probably go back down to Deck 6 or 9 midship where we have been quite a few times before.

I had fun writing the entire review.

The experience is exactly why I will *never* do a VGT fare ever again.

Ok...that was AWESOME! I really enjoyed reading it...you have quite a way with words and descriptions.

My favorite:
"The only reason this was an issue is that music was the only thing that could drown out the incessant dropping of weights by people in the gym directly overhead who think dropping weights makes them more macho"
And
"Top it off with the rhythmic drone of a treadmill accompanied by what sounded like a 600 pound runner wearing lead jackboots and a 200 pound backpack and it’s a recipe for insomnia"

Good heavens that sounds horrendous. .

We were on the starboard side aft, beneath the entrance to Cabanas and the arcade. The only noise issue we had (and it was really minor) was the after party on Pirate Night. We could hear the bass thumping during the party. But it was fairly short..

We're in 10658 in June - is that the one you're talking about? :D

No we were in 10612. That's more forward than your room. You room is the starboard corner aft room. You're underneath the starboard outside seating area for Cabanas. I'd say it would be fairly quiet there at night.

That's what I'm hoping! I think we'll be fine noise-wise too, based on the reviews I've read - besides it'll be worth it for that huuuuuge veranda! Squeee!!!:jumping1:

I'm finding my head spinning with all the different categories of staterooms. I know I want a verandah, and I know I don't want a white wall. Where I'm getting lost is trying to decide which locations and verandah sizes are worth a premium. Are the "undersized" verandahs bad? There will only be two of us. Curious to hear people's verandah experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

We always get a verandah -- a standard room with verandah (nothing deluxe). The verandahs are a comfortable size and we use ours for morning snacks, lunch, relaxing, napping, reading, sightseeing and late night star gazing. Love to have the ability to get fresh air in the room. Just be careful NOT to open your cabin door while your verandah door is open or you will get a wind vortex and possibly time travel!

You do have a way with words. Always thought Disney poorly designed their most deluxe rooms in such locations. We got an upgrade on Princess last year from a verandah to a mini-suite. Since it was free, we thought why not -- more room. Unfortunately, it was under the restaurants. We were told "no problem, they stop serving by 10 p.m.". Except they forgot to let us know that they run carts all night long to and fro across the floors. It was like listening to cart races. And this was considered an upgrade. UGH. Lost lots of sleep on that cruise.

Remember: These are the same designers that put Remy and Palo under the basketball court and miniature golf course. I hate the sound of a bouncing basketball, but I hate it even more when I'm paying good money for a peaceful high end meal. Thankfully we tend to eat late and most people aren't using the courts by then, but when we did the Remy Dessert thing the sound of basketballs wore me out.

I've also had a golf ball fall from the Sports Deck and hit the table where I was sitting on the Meridian smoking deck. I moved up underneath cover at that point.

Especially annoying when you consider the first two ships didn't have that issue. Palo is aft, all by itself. Well, people can walk around the back side of it, on the outside deck. You can see some pretty interesting things while having brunch because people don't realize those mirrored windows there actually have people behind them. :rolleyes1

You're right -- senseless. But then again, from experience, designers never seem to think of the end result. And, of course, Disney had final say and didn't seem to see the obvious clash of space. When they re-designed the library space at the university I work at, they put the giant metal awning in the middle of the large viewing window across from circulation -- so that every single morning the sun hits that metal and bounces right into the eyes of those of us sitting at the circulation desk! UGH

I remember the trip reports when the new ships first sailed from people talking about paying all that money for a high end room only to be met with the sounds from above -- which were not music to their ears! Makes me happy to just stick with my low end ordinary verdandah room surrounded above by nothing but staterooms LOL
