I'm finding my head spinning with all the different categories of staterooms. I know I want a verandah, and I know I don't want a white wall. Where I'm getting lost is trying to decide which locations and verandah sizes are worth a premium. Are the "undersized" verandahs bad? There will only be two of us. Curious to hear people's verandah experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

First, I'll just point out that the "whitewall" verandahs on the Dream class ships is not the same as the Magic class.
On the Magic class the whole wall below the rain is solid white. On the Dream class the solid portion is only about 12" high and the remainder of the wall up to the rail is see-through plexiglass.

We've had 2 verandah rooms on the Fantasy, pretty much the standard, basic verandah. It was plenty for us, but we're not really "sit on the verandah" types who have their early morning coffee there or stay out at night. We'd much rather be out and about on the ship than just sitting alone in our rooms.

Here's a couple of pictures of one of our verandahs:

And my husband sitting there one day:

Note, the deck 10 verandahs have a larger overhang above:

Most of the verandahs with plexiglass will be on the sides of the ship. The whitewalls are towards the front/back and bookend the majority of rooms, plus the 5E's which are the ones facing aft. If you're really struggling with finding a good location, I would suggest finding a TA who can help you through the process and take the stress of your shoulders.

Are those photos from the Dream? I'm not liking that overhang, we're on Deck 10!

They're from the Fantasy, but it would be the same. I kind of liked the overhang, as we're not much for just sitting in the sun, and it provided more shade.

Does it lessen the view? That looks nothing like the photos from the website, must be the angle they take them from.

Well, get a bit less of the sky view, but it doesn't really cut anything out of the straight out, or down views.

It lessens the view in that you can't see up, but I don't tend to look up when I'm on the verandah. I look out and down. My bigger concern with 10 is the noise from overhead depending on the location. We *loathed* our deck 10 room.

Well, between our deck 10 and deck 9 rooms, I preferred the deck 10 one. The noise from above and around us on deck 9 was much more noticeable than the noise we had on deck 10.

You obviously weren't under the jerks dropping weights at 7 am in the gymnasium.

I remember seeing a picture of an undersized verandah that was so small it only had a little bench that faced sideways, backing up against the divider. I book 5c so I don't get obstructions.

You mean this one??

Or under the pool area where CM's were dragging chairs across the deck at 5 AM every morning. Between that and the overhang which was annoying for picture taking purposes, I would never book Deck 10 again. We learned our lesson on that cruise to try and book a cabin that has nothing but other cabins above and below us.

We were on the starboard side aft, beneath the entrance to Cabanas and the arcade. The only noise issue we had (and it was really minor) was the after party on Pirate Night. We could hear the bass thumping during the party. But it was fairly short.

We could, on occasion, hear running feet toward the Cabanas entrance.

On deck 9 (between stateroom decks) we had soooooo many noise issues. Most of which were entirely passenger generated, and most likely to not happen on every cruise. There were at least 2 groups staying on deck 10 who felt the only way to travel down the passageway was by running foot races. At any time of day or night.

We were also between 3 connecting rooms on one side, where the kids found great pleasure in running laps around/through the connecting doors/verandahs (at top volume screaming). And on the other side there were 2 connecting rooms where someone (not sure if it was kids, or not, because they were pretty heavy-sounding) someone really liked jumping off the bunk bed.

Thanks for all these great tips, everyone. I had actually been tempted by Deck 10 Forward, partially for the Star Trek reference and partially to walk up one deck to the adult pool. I'm really glad to hear that it's not such a good idea.

Deck 10 Forward, Port side would be *fantastic. If you're all the way forward, you are underneath the Concierge rooms.

We love the Fantasy deck 8 with a verandah. White wall divider, yes.....but the view is amazing! We hope to never have to cruise without a verandah!

Well all verandahs have a white wall divider. Or do you mean the wall below the rail?

We have stayed Deck 10 on Dream and Fantasy and loved the overhang due to the awesome shade it provides. We stay forward on Starboard so we are under the Spa/Rainforest and have not had trouble with noise...in fact, the hallways are quiet because there is no need to go that far on Deck 10 unless you are staying there or an officer getting to the Bridge of course. Which is pretty neat...sometimes we run into the Captain and the officers as we are coming and going. We like cabins 10500, 10504 and 10506.
