Well, we got our Cat 9D gty room assignment and I must say I am not jumping up and down for joy. From the deck plan for Deck 7 it appears not only is it at the very end of the ship but it's a handicap cabin. I did NOT request a handicap room nor do we need a handicap room. This trip is to celebrate our 40th anniversary and I was not expecting a let down like this. Can anyone put my apprehension at ease? Or should I try to get a different cabin? We sail May 18 so I don't have much time. Thanks for any help!

A lot of people are quite happy to get a handicapped room because they are quite a bit larger than a normal stateroom.

Hi Slappy 32! I appreciate your input. I did try to find a layout for the handicap rooms but no luck. So, they are bigger how? Also, being at the end of the ship you don't think the ship rocking would be an issue?

I would definitely check out the stateroom reports on this website. If there's not a report on the Fantasy list, check out the Dream list since the ship are pretty much the same.

Thanks for everyone's help. I did read the reviews and it sounds like the people that got the room was happy with it. My husband said he's just so happy to be going that he'd sleep on the poop deck! So I guess we'll be keeping the room!

We got assigned 7500 on Fantasy. Very disappointed we will not have a bathtub for my youngest child.

7500- 9C Deluxe Oceanview

Features include ramped bathroom thresholds, open bed frames, added phones in the bathroom/nightstand, bathroom and shower handrails, fold-down shower seats, hand-held shower heads, lowered towel and closet bars, and Emergency Call Buttons. All staterooms are non-smoking.

The site has some very small pictures, if you go to the deck 7 plan and check out that room. There are 5 pictures that you can scroll over.

I think this is one of them:

They also show this one, so I'm not sure if there's 2 windows or if one of these pictures is incorrectly identified:

Here is the view:

These are from that site, above. I've not stayed there, but I hope it helps.

We just stayed in this room the week of January 18th. I thought I’d share some more pics of the room, since I couldn’t find many before sailing.

On our first cruise on the Dream, we were assigned a similar cabin. I can't recall the number. We didn't know at the time how much space there was compared to other staterooms. We enjoyed it a lot! We had no problems with ship motion and it was so spacious! We have since been in standard and deluxe inside and oceanview rooms and while they're great, we often mention that first trip! We loved it!

It's true that there's no tub, but if it's just the two of you adults, it's nice. The shower in the accessible room is basically just a corner of the bathroom with a curtain around it, but this makes the bathroom space quite large and it felt like a real bathroom rather than the very cramped quarters in a "regular" stateroom.

Overall, we agree with your husband and are just happy to have a room. ENJOY!!

Going to be the voice of dissent here. Our first cruise we did GTY and got 7508, and I HATED it. It felt like a super far walk from everything, and the rocking was intolerable--I didn't sleep a wink. My husband liked the rocking and slept just fine though. So if you have a sensitivity for ship movement, far forward is not a good choice.

I also would personally consider the lack of a split bath in 7500 to be a major disadvantage. But again, preferences will vary. If you are before PIF and can still change, I'd go ahead and change from GTY to a room of your choosing. When you let DCL choose, are going to get whatever is left over.

We had booked a 9D GTY and 7500 is the room we got. For the positives, room was huge and liked a bigger bathroom (that didn’t feel like you were in an airplane bathroom, lol). I didn’t miss not having a tub. What I didn’t like was that the beds were not above one another (pull down was separate from above the couch, may sound silly but from a space perspective it was awkward), no room separation between bed and ‘bunks’. I agree that forward is really far from the dining rooms, but the theatres are in the front of the ship and a lot of activities are midship, so wasn’t too bad (I still prefer midship). You definitely felt the waves and while I didn’t think I liked the aft because of the engines (especially when the boat backed in to port), I’d take that over forward any day. I’m glad we stayed in the room to get a different perspective, but likely won’t book cat 9C/9D again.

We stayed in a 9C category in November. We were a little worried about the angled wall because DH is 6'4". We were in 8004 1 floor above and we absolutely loved it. We actually have 7004 booked for later this year and are very happy we have it.

Now ours was not accessible but it was spacious and I loved having the extra floor space where the ship angles out toward the bow. Gives you room for your suit case, or packages without taking up the main floor space. We loved how quiet it was and we did not think it was that far of a walk. I think you will be very happy.

Well, it was nice of @jmmess to post pictures so others could see. :thumbsup2 I was actually trying to move when I booked one of those rooms until I saw some good picture.
