We are really looking forward to the Fantasy of Festival Parade. Is it worth a fastpass? Or can we get a good view somewhere else? And how far in advance do we need to stake out a spot in order to get a good view without a fastpass?

One thing about this parade is that the floats are HUGE. They can easily be seen from further back. It's not so easy to see the walking characters and dancers unless you're close to up front though.

The least crowded viewing location is almost always Frontierland, where the parade route starts. PP is right that you don't have to be right on the rope line or front row to see the floats, and your best chance to get closer is in Frontierland, not on Main Street or the hub, where everyone seems to think they have to watch the parades from. I would think you could get a decent spot 20 minutes or so before the parade if you watch from Frontierland. This is all assuming that you aren't going at a super crowded, peak time.

I wouldn't recommend FP for the afternoon parade. The viewing area is right out in the sun, and it's at the end of the parade route so you have to wait some time for the first floats to even arrive. We loved finding a shady spot in Frontierland and watching from there.
