I think the motion is the same whether you are forward or aft. There seems to be more vibration aft, but I like the location for proximity to dining. If you will be spending more time in the adult only locations then forward may be for you.
I'm not sure it is fair to say that there is the same amount of motion forward or aft, I think it depends on the conditions.
Forward and aft motion feel different and I think some are more sensitive to the type of motion and thus they have a preference. Forward is a more up and down (think "crashing") where the aft feels more side to side (think "wiggling"). The aft has the additional vibration from being above the engines. Some people have a problem because they feel the vibration, others because they HEAR the vibration. Noises you wouldn't normally hear while you are trying to sleep. Foam earplugs are easy to bring.
I'm a midship girl myself and would prefer to be on a lower deck and midship than a higher deck and forward or aft. That being said, aft tends to effect my seasick prone partner less so that's where we go if midship is unavailable.
Great analysis! I feel no sea sickness aft so I guess the side to side doesn't bother me. Forward though in the gym and spa were really hard. So the up and down must be the issue.
I can imagine running on the treadmill, especially on the classics where they face directly forward, to be a nauseating proposition.
We were definitely more aware of the motion during our concierge stay on the Dream. It's really hard for me to think of those as "prime" cabins. Easier for the cruise line to separate from others? Sure. The best area on the ship? Eh.
This is not always true, the Magic/Wonder have the adult areas forward while the Dream/Fantasy have the adult areas aft.
We were forward on the Dream just a couple of weeks ago, and the adult section was definitely right outside our "private" (per our stateroom host as we were the only ones he saw use it ever) door and down one flight of stairs.

Oh you mean the adult POOL! Yes, those are forward.
I was referring to the adult lounges.
Yeah...I meant the 24-hours/day adult area.

No knocking concierge from me, I totally get the pampering on the new ships and enjoyed my (heavily discounted) stay. However, I didn't enjoy the location. It was really far away from the adult lounges and the restaurants. Since the Dream/Fantasy are so big, it was just a long walk to most of the things we did in our short cruise.
It was great for my MIL who is a senior and needed a bit of extra help with everything, had an easy place to get breakfast without getting lost, and a double pull out bed for her to sleep in. Pros and cons. Worth double the price of a regular room for me personally? No. Mainly because of location.

Last time I was on a cruise it was an inside stateroom, no windows and though it was great I like windows. I like verandah's but right now that's not possible.
