**Fantasy Becomes Reality** Group--5/19/2012 (INDEX/ROLE CALL, PAGE 1--ENTRY 1)

I'm confused... it seemed like so many posts emphasize that the Dream/Fantasy have 1000 more people, but space was not that much bigger. Not that it feels crowded crowded... but that it is noticeable. Then I saw this pic on the pic of the day thread below. Wow, the Fantasy looks much bigger. can any of you explain the paradox?? Or is my source of info that the dimensions of the Fantasy/Dream are not that much larger way incorrect??

We need a meet and greet!!! We are anxious to meet everyone that we have 'met' here on the boards!!!!

Soooooo....who has done the meet and greet before and what has worked well?

I also think we need to finalize the template for the lanyard inserts. I really like the Dumbo design----kudos to the creator (know that I'm at work and shouldn't be on here, so looking up a name ins't possible right now)......nice job!!!!

I know Jaimie suggested the meet the night before the cruise, but we'll still be at the parks, so if that's when a meet is held, we won't be able to attend. Maybe she meant just a social gathering for those staying near the port, not in lieu of one on the ship. If that's what you guys want to do, though, please enjoy!

On our last Disney cruise, we had a pretty successful meet. It can be a bit awkward for me; my sister isn't an extrovert, and I'm pretty sure my niece isn't turning out to be, either, so they aren't as talkative at those, and I end up feeling like I am the Beck (our last name) family representative, but we still go and participate. :) My sister is hoping Hannah (6) will make some friends with some of your children. She'll be happier that way and will likely enjoy the clubs/pools more, so hopefully those of you with kids will attend.

I know it sounds hectic, but we had our meet at, I want to say, 3 PM on embarkation day. It was actually very low stress. It was more of a "drop in" gathering, with a natural ending time being the need to go participate in the lifeboat drill (though people did meet up again after the drill to enjoy the sail-away party together. We had lots of people show up, and it worked well. I think when I suggested this before, others weren't a fan of doing it on embarkation day because it was the first day on a new ship, and someone said it might be stressful to try to get to the meet. I understand that and can't argue that it could be stressful. It wasn't for us, so I'm still okay if that's when the meet is, but I'm totally up for something else, too :) (provided it doesn't conflict with the AllEars group, which still hasn't announced any meets while on board).

We actually organized a stateroom tour in my last group, and it went really well. It was fun to see the different room categories people had. We picked a day at sea. Someone had a one bedroom suite, concierge level, so that was especially fun to tour. I'm not suggesting we do a stateroom tour... just answering Tony's question. :)

We're dressing up! We get dressed nice every night for supper (no t-shirts except pirate night for us) and step it up a notch or two on formal and semi-formal nights. My husband will be wearing a three-piece suit with tie to match my fancy dresses. We love getting dressed up and jump at the chance to do so whenever we can!

Cruise documents already? I'm jealous! Last time we had a similar trip planned our WDW and cruise documents arrived two days before we left! This time we are leaving four days earlier and I am crossing my fingers that everything arrives before we leave. Eek! (The joys of living in the middle of nowhere.)

We are dressing up, too. I like it - I can be a slouch anytime, so part of what makes a cruise special is the chance to step my normal attire up a notch. I'll be wearing a dress every night. It feels more Caribbean to me that way. :) On formal night, I am likely going with a basic black, knee-length dress I wore as a maid of honor in my friend's wedding two years ago (a great bride to be MoH for - totally nonfussy and didn't care what we chose as bridesmaids). With earrings and the right hair/shoes, I'm telling myself it will be simple but classy.

:dance3:Got our cruise documents today!! Yay!:banana:

Congrats to you and everyone else who has gotten their documents already. Nothing had arrived here before I came up to my sister's for the weekend. Our TA emailed and said they'll get them next week and will review them for accuracy, so I'm guessing ours will come in the next 7-10 days. I got an email update from Southwest that the trip is "right around the corner," which helps it sink in how close it's getting. A month from now, I'll be at Disney (I'm going on my own a few days ahead of my sister and niece, who are joining me late Tuesday night).

I finished up our FE gifts tonight, too! It's exciting to have that done. I hope you all like them - we are keeping one of the gifts for ourselves, too! :)

It's my sister's birthday on Sunday, which is also Gotcha Day for my niece. For those unfamiliar with Gotcha Day, it's a day of celebration in families blessed by adoption. Gotcha Day is the day you bring your child home for the first time or take him/her into your permanent custody for the first time. In our case, we flew to Guatemala City on April 15 - my sister's birthday. Later that day, we finally got to meet Hannah at 4.5 months old and bring her into our family. We were in GC for 6 days, but she was ours starting the afternoon of the first day, which was so cool because, as I said, it was my sister's birthday. What an amazing gift that was. It was also Easter weekend, and as Christians, this was especially meaningful for us (my mom and I traveled with her to GC to bring Hannah home).

Anyway, so that's what's up with the donaldsgal group. I hope you're all well and as excited about the cruise as we are! :) :woohoo::yay::cheer2::cool1:

Hi there,

Like you, we'll still be at WDW the night before the cruise, but would love to meet up with you and anybody else who's up for it at 3pm on embarkation day, or at any other time. Which resort are you staying in at WDW? We are at a treehouse in Saratoga Springs. If you would like to meet for a chat or whatever, just PM me and we can arrange it.

I was really interested in Gotcha Day, we don't have it over here, but I will be telling my sister and brother in law all about it, as they have twin adopted daughters, my beloved nieces Aimee and Rebecca.

We did a meet and greet at the bar on deck 4 last year on the Dream. We had it at 3:00 and had a decent turnout. I thought it was a little tight for space but it was fairly easy to spot other disers because of our lime green bracelets.

As i posted earlier, this is also the time we had our meet and greet on the Dream. I just don't think the location we had was the best. It was on embarkation day.

We know Gotcha Day very well!!! Our DD is also adopted. We actually celebrate Adoption Day on the date the judge signed the adoption decree which was about 9 months after we took custody. We were actually with her since the moment she was born. Actually my wife was with her the day she was born, I was taking my last section of the CPA exam. Our DD was born in Iowa and we live in NJ. The day I took the exam I also flew back to Iowa to meet her for the very first time. Luckily I test best under the most stressful circumstances and passed that section!

Somebody snagged that royal suite that was available last week. Wondering, was it anyone on here? We'd be up for a meet on embarkation day. Did that on the last cruise and it worked out fine. See you all soon.

I keep finding time to poke in here and read what's been added, but haven't had two seconds to post myself! It's marathon cleaning day in this house, so I think it's time for a break!!! :surfweb:

So much to add to, but I'll do the most important first: We got our cruise docs too! I was in the "oh no! There's only one person on the Palo reservation!" group, but I also noticed that it lists that the reservation is for 2, so I moved over to the "not worried" list. Now, if I could just get on the "Yay! I'm going to Palo Brunch!" list, we'd be great

Formal nights: I secretly love formal nights :) I think it's fun to get dressed up every once in awhile. It's a packing nightmare, but hey-- where else do we get to do it? I think it's a whatever you want to do thing-- If you like it, go all out... If you don't, be comfy :) I have lost almost 30 pounds so I'm excited for looking at dresses for once (and I'm NOT a shopper!). I think I might even let myself get excited about bathing suits this trip ;)

On the home front, I'm pretty pumped about a job prospect that came up yesterday. I love the job I do now (I am an early intervention specialist for our state's birth to three program and work with special needs babies, premies to age 3, in their homes doing physical, occupational, speech and developmental therapies), but it's crazy come tax time because I'm considered a private practitioner which Uncle Sam LOVES... I need something that's a more regular schedule and takes taxes out for me so I don't lose my mind (and my wallet). Our principal mentioned last night that they were looking for an aide for our new superintendents son who has down syndrome which is exactly what I used to do, so I'm crossing my fingers that it works out as, 1. I would love it! and 2. it would be a perfect schedule with the boys... I could keep a couple of my babies just to keep doing it, but it would be a welcome change. We'll see!

Looking forward to a beautiful week here! It's going to be 80 on Monday! Yay!!!!

My dis name comes from my career. I take care of sick babies as a nurse practitioner (the abbreviation is CRNP for certified registered nurse practitioner).:)

Susan (sues14) will probably click well with you.....she was a labor and delivery nurse, and hopes to return to it. I think she wants to do more post-partum though.

OPEN QUESTION TO EVERYONE:
Soooooo....this poses the question....what do you do? What is your job?

If you ask someone in my house, they will say....he works with computers, and that is all the detail you will get. I actually do work for a software development company that markets a business solution for healthcare companies of any size. I am in the QA department, which means that I have to hold developers accountable for their work. I've been with the company for 8 years, but have been in the healthcare field for 22 years now.

Your turn!

I'm off to go thread-hunting. Don't know how much I'll be able to do with the search feature currently disabled, but I want to find out what movies we might see on-board, and if there are any prem-ears while on board. Our last cruise prem-ear'ed Alice in Wonderland in 3D, y'know...Johnny Depp version.

I now know from experience that you might want to think twice about sitting in a theater on Friday night at midnight with the ship going full throttle  (from the Cay back to port) and watching 3D. :crazy2: Most of our group didn't survive it.... :faint::sick:

But with the price of going to the movies these days, I might be tempted to catch a few movies while others sleep or do their thing. I do anticipate 'The Avengers' being on board so that is one I will want to see.

Anyone else have any movie info?

I'm curious as to what movies will be on board as well!

Never answered about my Disney name. Probably because it's pretty obivous. lol
I was never really happy with it but needed to get on quick and couldn't think of anything better. Of course, now I have come up with a million different ones I'd like to change to but don't want to start all over.

As for what we do....

I have worked for the local city government for the past 12 years as an Account Clerk 2 and we also own a small pizzera that Gus runs with his brother. I/we have also taken care of my 92 year old Gma for the past 11 years. She has dementia and lives with us so that is also like a full time job!!
Oh yeah, and Gus is a professional DJ. He mostly does weddings and corporate parties. And...he's an amateur magicain!! Let's just say we have a lot going on and these vacations are really what keeps us going!!! :beach:

lol-- I jumped the gun on the career question as I answered it in the post right before it was asked... I was mind reading :goodvibes

I guess I'll answer just for the heck of it. I'm an early interventionist for our state Birth to Three program. We provide in home developmental therapies (speech, physical, occupational, nutritional, behavioral, etc) for babies with special needs from premies up to age 3. I got started when Alex (DH7) turned 3 because he was in it from 4 months on for what later was diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum with motor issues. You'd never know it today because of the wonderful therapists he had from day 1. I couldn't wait to get involved after all they did for our family. It's an amazingly fun job and I always say that I get paid to play with babies :)

Off to try to find some new reports since the 2nd round cruisers just got back yesterday. I think 24 hours is *plenty* of time to give them before expecting some navigators to pacify my cruise fix, haha :rotfl:

Jen princess:

PS-- is it just me or is this website touchier than usual today??? Keeps pulling weird tricks on me! :)

Hi all!

First, just to alleviate any curiosity, those of us in the AllEars group still haven't gotten any information bout scheduled events. I'll post when we hear more. :)

My screen name comes from the fact that Donald is my favorite Disney character (I have a kindred spirit in Bryan!). The reason why he's my favorite character, however, is because my dad can do the voice. My dad isn't the most emotionally-available man. He's a hardworking man who worked hard to provide for his family, and that meant working a job that was very trying and giving up many of his own dreams. He isn't always so good about letting loose and having fun, so when he would do the Donald voice, it brought me a TON of joy. Still does. I get tears in my eyes just typing this. :)

Oh, and the "gal" is attributable to being a woman. :)

Something you don't know about me... hmmm. I'm don't feel like there's much interesting about me, so I'll cast a wide net in hopes of sounding more mysterious and fascinating than I really am. ;) I had my nose pierced in college, a little diamond stud in my right nostril, and still would have one if I could with my job. I'm a counselor, and I spend most of my week treating 18-22-year-old women for eating disorders. I'm a pretty good mimic; I can usually copy someone's style of speech, mannerisms, etc. after a conversation or two. I used to think it was silly to pay to get your tires rotated because "your car rotates them for free each week." When I bought my first car and read the manual, that's the first time I understood the concept. Ahhh, the joys of life inside my head! :)

Great questions, Tony! And have a good night, all! :)

ETA: Apparently, something we might not have known about me but is now public to the world is my love of the totally boring DIS smilie known as :)
First let me say I love the reason for your name. Tony can also talk Donald Duck and he has a great Donald sneeze. My mom and dad had fourteen children. My dad was also not much for showing emotions to us kids. When we did get the nerve up to say "I love you" to him, his response would be "I Know" but what he lacked in words he made up for in our life. We went to Disney Land or World every other year and on the other cycle we camped and took a small vacation. So your name made me tear a little too! Thanks for sharing.

SpaceCanada - When I went to Space Camp as a teenager I was the only Canadian there. My fellow team mates called me 'Canada'. I'm a pretty big space nerd/geek and at school I was dubbed 'SpaceGirl'. It didn't take long for the two to merge together.

Random trivia - I was fortunate to return to Space Camp a few more times since and I've been to the Kennedy Space Center to watch a space shuttle launch - STS-118 in 2007. Incredible! So there you go. :)

I have also been a member of Girl Guides of 22 years! The number plate on my car says 'GRLGIDE' Guiding is a huge part of my life.
I love that you went to space camp! That is sooo cool!

Our last name is OKray and we love Disney - so it was an easy choice for our Dis Boards name: OKraysLoveDisney

I have a quite large Tinkerbell tattoo on my lower leg left that I got two years ago...I just love her!

For my bday this past March we were in Disney World; hubby ordered me a beautiful cake with my tattoo of Tinkerbell on the cake from Boardwalk Bakery - it was so beautiful!!! I am uncertain how to post pictures...sorry!
That is so cool
Just in case you missed it before – I am a HUGE Donald Duck fan & Donald Applecore is the name of one of my favorite Donald Duck shorts. If you want to watch it, there is a link to it in my signature.

Something you guys don’t know is that I have been in the process of opening my own law practice for that past six months or so. I was laid off from a small firm last summer. (They apparently were having money issues, as they closed their doors at the end of the year). I got a few job offers, but nothing I really wanted to do so I turned them down – ultimately I decided to just GO FOR IT!

Anyway, I have started very small – doing a lot of contract work for other firms to make ends meet & keep the doors open. I also have an adjunct position at one of the law schools here in the meteroplex. I recently started putting together my web-site. The process is very slow as I am doing it myself & I am not very overly tech-savvy. Check it out if you like, its still incomplete, but feedback is welcome. (feel free to PM feedback if you prefer, but I am pretty thick skinned;))

Good luck on the new business and you know I love the name.

Congratulations Sue, that's awesome!

I like the DIS ID tag idea. Would be happy to print my own if someone makes a template.

My DIS name is what my grandchildren call me. When I signed up for DIS I had to come up with a name quickly and that was all I could think of. Once I was on I realized that most people have a Disney reference in theirs. But once you have a name you can't change it.

And, I won tickets to Disney on Ice from a local TV station the other day. So we will be going to that in early May and then the cruise! Getting more excited everday.
I love the name Nonni maybe some day I might steal it!

Still catching up!!

WL1117 - Wilderness Lodge, November 17th -Where and when we were married. :)

I used to be Asuneda (A Sunny Day) on these boards, but somehow forgot my password and cannot seem to figure out what old email I used, so we started using DH's account.
I really like both of them! I am not that clever in a quick situation.
Here is the video from Saturday that I took. Sorry for the shaking and jerky movements my accident in July has left me with trembles, balance issues, and random jerky movements. Mom would have shot the video but she was doing the photo taking.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQZrINO0i2k

My screen name came about when I joined and was in the planning stages for a trip to Orlando to look for apartments. I had been chatting on another message board for a long time and at the time was a "guide" on that board. I found the DIS boards and have found it to be chock full of information more so then the other board. So I joined.

I chose this name because when we moved we would be living our Dream of living as close to the Magic as possible. So livingthewdwdream became my screen name.

I can't wait to get our documents but I think its going to be closer to the 30 mark before we get anything in the mail. Given we are at 47 Days!!!!! Gonna have to keep occupied with watching youtube videos, look at photos online, and work on packing things I don't need before we leave into the suitcases, for our cruise.
I like your name too! Like I said so clever!
We finally have a stateroom number assigned to us!! We still got the room type we wanted 8A- two porthole windows! We are #6510!!

It's getting so close!! Now we can actually say we are leaving next month!!!
So cant wait!

Oh and Texfinn - I use this a lot on other boards/games as well.

I am from Texas, been here since I was 5 but moved away twice -- thus the Tex and Joni (my DH) is from Finland. I met him in Texas but moved to Helsinki, married him there and lived there for a year and a half. We go back every year and a half - so every third summer and every third Christmas. It is now a second "home" for me so thus the "finn".

As for something most people don't know about me -- a few years back I did the triathalon -- 12 weeks prior to the triathalon, I learned how to swim. I knew how to do basic swim underwater from point a to b but not really swim as in "strokes". I am still not good at it but did learn freestyle well enough to swim the 1/2 mile in the lake for the race. I can only really freestyle and doggy paddle so every time I took a rest, the lifeguards at the triathalon thought I was drowning - had to keep waving them away! I was slow but I finished the tri! And no, didn't catch the bug and don't think I will be doing any more
Yea that is awsome! That is awsome that as adult that you went to learn something new!

My board name: biff423

Biff was my husbands nickname in college and 423 is my birthday

Something no one knows about me:
My husband and I have matching tattoos and mine is on my rear (which is why no one knows about it).

A bit of news from our camp - after having our house in Nebraska on the market for 24 months (ugh) it looks like we finally have it under contract. We are victims of the housing crisis and it will unfortunately be a short sale as home values have plummeted in the little town of Fremont, but we will be so relieved to close that chapter in our lives. We have stayed current on the payments and been making two mortgage payments for 2 years now (double ugh). It will be complete shock to our bank account when we suddenly don't have that extra expense.
I will be looking for your dh tattoo so we will know what you have. As far as the house, the market is bad and things happen. Yea you will have one shocked checkbook!

...there seems to be a tattoo contingent here in our group!

I have three total.

Susan has two (but I didn't tell you that....).
Whaa??????

Those look great! It's funny I've been thinking about trying to do something like this for a few weeks. This looks much better than anything I could come up with. One question - would we want to add our real first name or not. I normally don't like name tags but in this case I think it's a good idea. Although I'm fine with being called Pirategirrrl ;)
I like it
ok all.....most of you had talked with me on here for several months and know that I am happy, excited, helpful, sarcastic and friendly. I hope I have never been mean or angry to someone......BUT...yeah there is always a butt there and usually it's mine and it's BIG!:)

So, there is a thread I found today on the front page of the forums

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2905248

about the POO PROBLEM IN THE MICKEY POOL!!!

Ok, so most people have said it's due to the un-potty trained kids, no age limit, people bringing their un-potty trained kids in the pool and BAM! Mickey's your Uncle...you've got a Mr. Hankey Floater! Clear out the pool, bring on the yellow haz-mats and now pool's closed for hours.

Besides the fact that I am fully grossed out about myself or children being in said pool before the little floater is discovered....is this really and truly a problem...or a thread/board issue blown out of control??

I had to answer back on the board...my first angry post ever! I know there are several previous crusiers on here...would you mind please sharing your floater/non floater stories....pool age limits etc....if I see a 9 month old being taken into the pool, can I tattle or is it time to jump the heck out?? Is it already a sess pool with people peeing in it??? uggghh I am so grossed out right now!

I'm a mom, I deal with poo and all other body functions on regular basis and I am not a pansy about it (let's not mention when grandma lived here on Hospice!) yeah I am not a pansy...but when it comes to my kids having to miss out or be exposed, we have a whole perfect storm of angry bager here!

Thanks guys, sorry for the rant! little bit of psyco panic attack...oh yeah and being married to Mr. Serve Safe (IE: professional Executive Chef) doesn't help one bit! I know all the "yuck" carried by human, uh, waste......
We didnt have this issue on our last two cruises. But I did see a baby in the adult pool and it ticked me off. Only because I pushed the adult/ no kids part of the cruise to single adults who dont want the kid part of the whole cruise. I think Disney doesnt do great at keeping the rules it sets.

Reason 437 why our holiday cannot come fast enough:

This is what we woke up to today:

And for those who are wondering, yes, the buses are still running and it's business as usual up here. Although my husband wanted to make a snowman in the middle of the street so the cars couldn't get into or out of our crescent. Ever seen the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon about snowmen?

To think that two days ago I was outside wearing shorts and a t-shirt! Haha... I knew it was too good to be true. Five weeks until we'll be in Orlando!
That is a march photo in St. Louis MO! (just not this year) We go from 90 degrees to 50 the next day!CRAZY

I think I am spending too much time on the DIS Boards. We had a new heating/cooling system installed in our house. The code calls for a pipe vent out. It's ugly, so DH painted it DIS Board green. I attached a fish extender magnet from a previous cruise and took these picture.
