**Fantasy Becomes Reality** Group--5/19/2012 (INDEX/ROLE CALL, PAGE 1--ENTRY 1)

Hi Jessy - So glad that you found "this" board - you may "know" me from the "other" board as well... I find it useful for non-DCL cruises.

Looking forward to meeting everyone! :dance3:

NO, I am NOT packed, having just returned from a week in San Francisco visiting DD27! and we are staying at the Doubletree in Cocoa Beach (did anyone hear that some fly-by-night hotel in Cocoa Beach will be turning their hotel into a nudist place :rolleyes1 - apparently CB does not have any laws against nude beaches - cannot remember which place - heard it on the news today!) Just a warning LOL

I am so excited that Chimpanzee will be shown on the cruise! I saw the last 2 earth day movies when they premiered on the ships on Earth Day and was hoping to see it on this one...Yes, we DO go to the movies on board as that is part of our vacationing (we don't have a local theater nearby, and usually see movies when we go to WDW too) Last cruise, DH & I actually watched Tangled in our room b/c we had not seen it yet!

First, the hotel is called Fawlty Towers hotel in Cocoa beach. It was on the news here too but it would be more likely to be on the news here given we are within an hour of Cocoa

I am planning to watch more movies on board given we don't like the theater closest to us and the theaters at Disney are too pricey for us. So this way we can see the movies we wanted to see. I say when your on vacation you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't break the law and no one gets hurt. So no shock here that anyone would go to the movies!

Major yankees fans here in this party. But I'm sure we'll find a way to get along. lol. We use park n cruise for our off site parking. No problems and so much cheaper. And you take your keys with you.

Us Cardinals fans are using the same parking lot. I won't disclose the vehicle though so it doesn't end up Yankee-fied. :rotfl2:

First, thanks to all of you that sent prayers and thoughts our way. Just a quick rundown on our last two weeks. On Friday, April 13, Dad had a biopsy and discovered he had cancer. On Monday, the 16th, he was told he had 6 months, plus or minus a few months. On Thursday, the 26th that estimate was reduced to one month, and we decided to cancel our vacation.

Yesterday, the 29th, before I went to visit him, I re-read all the wishes and prayers. You can't imagine how touched I felt to be held in your thoughts. It felt like I had a whole group of people giving me a warm, firm hug. On the way over, I received a call from my sister saying the doctor just saw him and said that he only had a day or so left! Dad passed away this morning, just a few weeks after hearing the devastating news. He was surrounded by his wife and all four children and passed as peacefully as possible from this terrible disease.

So I asked my sisters if they thought it would be terrible if we still went on the cruise. The all said we of course should go, and one wanted to go with us. I hadn't canceled the cruise or DVC ressie - I was going to do that today.

Pam and I WILL be on the cruise. I certainly could use a few weeks to spend some time to just relax after this ordeal. We still have this week to get through, but we've shown each other that we're a strong family and can help each other through anything.

I hope there's a couple of bracelets left for us, but if not, no worries. We have to get back on our FE gifts to get them done.

(I could REALLY use a Konk Kooler about now). Again, thank you for all your thoughts, it really made a huge difference. You are a phenomenal bunch of people - I can't wait to meet you all!

John

John, I am so sorry to read of your dad's passing. I have bittersweet emotions, I'm terribly sad to hear the news but also glad you will still be cruising with us. I am glad you have the support of your family in the decision to go, I know it can be devastating if not. See you in 19 days.

I have to confess on our last cruise we watched several movies in our room :happytv:. I distinctly remember The Green Hornet. I was so glad that I got to watch it for free because it would have been a waste of money to pay for it :scared1:.

John, I am so sorry for your loss! Hopefully going on the cruise will give you a renewed ability to cope with the coming months. There are definitely bracelets for you and your wife. I had planned to mail you some as honorary fbr's.

Can't wait to meet you!

John ~ While I am very sorry to hear about your dad's passing :( , I am very happy that you will be joining this awesome group of DISers for a fantastic cruise . I hope that you will feel some healing while on the cruise and you can share some memories of your dad with us. My parents are in their 80's and my mom was recently moved to a nursing home due to her Parkinson's. I know that each day is precious and we must make the most of them .

Wow Jon!
I'm happy, I'm sad, I smiled and I cried. I am so sorry to hear your news. Loosing a parent is so much harder than anyone can ever say. I have lost a lot of people close to me, my brother,my father, then my mother. Then I started all over again with Tony's step dad and then his mother. The only thing I can tell you is that it doesn't get better with time, it gets easier (because you will have a hard time with the first..first Christmas, first father's day). You don't want to hear they are in a better place. Because what place could be better than right here with you. The last thing to say is it's okay to cry. If you can't do it out in the open that's okay, it will happen, in the shower, or when you climb into bed after that all consuming day at work or with your family. That cry will not only be tears of grief, but happiness as you remember all he has taught you and all the fun you had. It's the sadness of not being able to call them up to decompress after getting bad news. You see our parents are the rock, the foundation on which we built ourselves.. Even though we may have a few cracks we still willbe strong and sturdy because of them. Just be that foundation for your children or your close friends. I guess just "pay it forward" that is the way our parents can live on.

You have our deepest condolences and lots of good wishes coming your way. We will see you soon.

John so sorry to hear of your loss. As I get older I realize my time with family is the most important thing. My mom is sailing with us on this cruise and I couldn't be happier about that. Tried to get my dad and his girlfriend to go (we sail away on his birthday) but the stubborn old man hates florida and wont come down.

So I'm really sorry for your loss but glad youre still sailing.

Wow, John what an emotional rollercoaster you have been on these last few weeks. I am so, so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. It's good that all the family were able to be there for him and for each other. Will continue to pray for you and your family these next few weeks. It's still difficult even though you know it's coming.

So glad you are going to be able to make the cruise. Looking forward to meeting everyone. It will be here before we know it!
