I read in one the threads (which I forgot which one it is now) that there's a place called Fantastic Plastics in EPCOT that the kids can build robots and race them. Can you tell me if it's on the East or West side? Do we have to come at a certain time?

The kids were very excited when I mentioned this to them.

Thanks!

Yikes! I cannot recall which side this was on..but I believe it was the first one you came to, from the park entrance, on your right.

The kids race the robots on a computerized program, against other kids. It's very fun. They build their robots on the computer, adding parts and pieces they like, and then have a race. At the end, they all get to vote for the best robot too, Ds still talks about how people voted for his to be the most colorful :)

After the race, as you are exiting that area, there's a spot where your child can build his own plastic robot to take home with them. It's a great spot!

Have fun!

Ok, I need more coffee! It's on your LEFT! Geesh, I must not be awake yet..lol

And from what I saw, you don't need to go at any certain time, it's on-going throughout the day :)

The plastic robots that you build will most likely have little to do with the one you design for your race, but they are colorful. There's also a little interactive presentation on plastic in our world.
The 'racing' is a little like that video game where people compete dancing. You have to run in place on sensors. It's can be fun, but it might be a little too much for very little ones - the adult is allowed to run for the kid though, if you're up to it.

The plastic robots you build afterwards are cute, but there is no "variation" to them except for color. There is only one style of head, body arms and legs. They are snap together plastic pieces. Once put together they really aren't much "fun" except to maybe share pieces with siblings and put the colors together again differently.

The game you play before is fun, but it is all "virtual". You to to a computer and are talked through the process of creating your virtual robot. You have to pick different characteristics for it like strength, material, jump ability and things like that. If kids are nonreaders they will need help.

My kids had a great time! Just don't build it up to much for your kids.

Also, if your kids like video games there is another place with a video game where you compete against others. I think it is to the left of the fire engine, but I can't really remember. It is geared more to preschoolers, but anyone can participate. You are assigned a different classic Disney character on the computer and you race around a park trying to collect ice cream cones. We had a lot of fun with that one. Another bonus, there are chairs for parents to rest while the kids play.

My two DS's did this last year and it is on their list of must do's for this year. A couple of reasons they liked it: 1. It is active 2. They get to be creative 3. At the end they build a robot to take home 4. It is inside so it is a nice place to take a break in the heat of the summer. We will be doing this again I am sure when we go back the week of August 6th!!

Fantastic Plastics is a great exhibit. It is in Innoventions East (Mission Space side) which also includes the House of Innoventions exhibit.

The interactive computer game is a great way for kids to run off some excess energy but parents may need to help their smaller children.

The robots can be made afterwards and they aren't just for the little kids. They make a great toothbrush holder or sunglass holder after your visit or in your hotel room. If you've already got a traditional robot try making a robot's best friend. You'll need a front body piece, a back body piece, 5 legs and 1 arm. The CMs should be able to help you put him together. :)

They're FREE! (with valid theme park admission, lol)

And don't forget, you can also choose whether your robot is going to be a boy or a girl. ;)

How much do these robots cost?

They are free. You are looking for the demo on plastics, looks sort of like a chemistry lab or something when you look at it.

The robots make a great toothbrush holder... so long as you have a lot of space for them :). We still have ours from last year (oh joy).

looks like something dd (5) would love to do and my second child too DH! :rotfl:

DS (2) absolutely loved this! We each made a robot and he still loves to take them apart and put them back together! He also had fun doing the race...we'll definitely be doing this one again in just over 2 1/2 weeks!
((We bought MIckey caramel corn in the bucket--it stores our robots perfectly!!))
:rotfl:
