OK, how would you do the fantasmic dinner package? And why?

ex: h&v b/c it is the cheapest/no loss of money if Fantasmic is rained out

My first choice is Brown Derby because we love fancier restaurants but we're unable to do that due to it being a package and DS 14 would have to pay adult price, I couldn't find anything on the menu he'd even like. So I went with H & V as the better choice, cheaper, DS will find plenty to eat, alot of good reviews, and same price with or without Fantasmic so you know it's a deal.

we usually do H&V because the kids can pick what they want, and its the cheapest!

We like H&V because there is something for everyone there. The desserts ROCK!

I've been thinking about H&v, because it's only $1 more per person (according to Deb's site.) That's worth it to me not to have to wait :)

Brown Derby because I really want to try it. I know we'll be paying more to do it as FDP than if we just ate a regular dinner there, but we don't have enough evenings at WDW this trip to do BD as a straight dinner and, H&V for FDP (which would be my second choice).

If we like Fantasmic enough to want to see it again, we'll probably do H&V the next time.

Well my ideal choice would be Brown Derby. I have always wanted to try it, but on my current budget is has been and will continue to be Hollywood and Vine. Which is quite a good buffet as buffets go.

We prefer Mama Melrose out of the choices-however we prefer not to do the package. Thats just our restaurant pick. :)

If Mama Melrose wasn't on the opposite side of the world from where you enter to see Fantasmic, it would be my pick... we had to run from our PS there to make it in time. My vote for the package is H&V... great food (and I don't normally like buffets) and price is right.

We did the package because there was no way we were going to have the experience we did our first time. Then, we went to the later show, and even arriving 90 minutes early, the area was jammed with people, and it just got worse. It was very hot and humid, children were crying because their feet hurt from standing so long. There was no room to have my then 8 year old son sit at my feet, people were so close together. We had to wait for the early show-goers to exit, and then begin the long walk up the hill to the area. It was horrible. I never complain about Disney, and I'm not doing that now. It's just that I, and my family, were so extremely uncomfortable that we knew it wasn't worth it to go through again. We would just save an extra few dollars and do the package, sit down and eat comfortably, no rush, get our Fantasmic pass, and walk right in down to our front seats.

We chose Mama Melrose because the food there is so good, it's nice and dimly lit which feels great after a hot day in the sun, and it's has a nice slow-pace ambiance as opposed to a bufffet. We were going to do H&V because the price was lower, but we said let's splurge and go where we really wanted.

Next time, we'll try Brown Derby, although it's ouchly expensive. I'm sure we'll do H&V someday, too! But we really liked the Italian food at Mama's.

We've tried all of them for the Fantasmic package. Our favorite is Hollywood and Vine. We have never had a bad meal there. The cost is reasonable. Seating and service has always been quick and good.

By the way, we did Mama Melrose one year and we didn't care for it, but lots of people do.

We chose H&V for the FDP because it was the least expensive. We were very pleased with the selection on the buffet - there were so many yummy foods (especially the desserts!) that we all were stuffed! When we do the FDP again, we'll definitely go back to H&V.

I did the package because I had heard horror stories about waiting in line for 90 minutes and not being able to get a seat. I really wanted to see "Fantasmic!" because I had also heard great things about the show. I chose Mama Melrose's because my spouse and I are vegan, and they seemed to have the most "vegan-izable" dishes. When I made the priority seating, I told them we needed vegan meals. When we checked in, I told the server, and he brought out Chef Gary--who was awesome. He went over the menu with us and helped us create a vegan pasta dish that turned out really tasty. Then it was time for dessert and he came out again--we had been afraid that we'd pay so much for the fixed price meal and not get to have dessert. He actually had soy ice "cream," which we ended up having with fresh strawberries. I really appreciated his help in making our $80 meal so delicious. Cheers to Chef Gary at Mama Melrose's! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

let me get this right - is there a charge for Fantasmic even if you don't do the dinner package?

No there is not a charge to see Fantasmic, booking a package at one of these restaurants gets you into a reserved seating area.

Where is the reserved seating? Is it pretty close? Do you really need to get there 90 mins before? :earsboy:
