Fantasmic??

We went 2nd week of November last year. We enjoyed it, but it was chilly that evening and the wind was just "wrong" for us. We were probably 6 or 8 rows from the front, but still ended up pretty wet from the water screens. If you go and it's cool out and windy, sit a ways from the front.

I think one should try everything once, but I will say Fantasmic is the only thing we did all week that we felt was a colossal disappointment--at least the interaction we had with the family who sat in front of us while we waited was entertaining (significantly moreso than the show). But it seems like many people enjoy it...

The CMs open the theater an hour or more before show-time.
Guests at that time will simply walk slowly through the very long pathways to the theater and file in to find a seat.

What a FP+ for F! offers is more CHOICE in seating.

If you DO get a F! FP+, you can choose to sit in either the FP section (virtually the entire left half of the theater) or the Standby section (virtually the entire right half of the theater.)
So, whatever section has the better seating at the time you arrive, you can go there.
Without a FP, you can only choose a seat in the Standby section.

There is a very good chance that you can get a FP+ for F! as a 4th or 5th FP of the day because they issue SO MANY of them (enough to cover nearly the entire left half of the seating.) On many nights, it is possible that you can gat a FP+ for F! as you are walking to the theater.

As to when to arrive at the theater, I'd get to there 45-60 minutes before the show-time.
Even WITH having a FP or Dining Pkg. reservation, don't wait too late.

On busy nights, the CMs can stop holding the reserved sections within 20-30 minutes before show-time, and turn over any available seats to waiting walk-in guests.

Guests who learn how to take advantage of the various available "tools" and timing strategies will be able to take more control over their WDW experiences.

I certainly don’t question you because I know how much you know about all of this. I am just surprised because the last two dining packages I booked seated us in the Scar section. That was with being there 45 minutes or so early too. It was a fantastic view and I would never have thought anything about it but just I’m just commenting because I see your map.

We think Fantasmic is spectacular. We took my brother when he was 11 and he liked it. The dragon is pretty amazing.

I would definitely recommend doing the dining package. The first time we went, we had to get in line over an hour in advance to guarantee a seat. A few years ago we did the dining package (Hollywood & Vine) and it was so nice to show up about 20 minutes or so before the show and have great seats to choose from. You have to eat dinner anyway, so it seemed like a good value to us. We will be doing the dining package again this October.

How long ago?

Just stumbled across this thread as I was going to ask about picking up a late FP!

Anyway, took my kids 2 years back age 6, 9 and 11 for the first time. We’re just planning our next visit for this summer and they all said they wanted to return.

They all enjoy the ‘classic’ Disney characters.

I have to caution you against counting on that situation.
And, yes, it can certainly be just fine (as you said.)
HOWEVER...

There are many times when the theater will be full at 20 min. before show time, and even with the Dining Pkg., guests may not be able to get "great seats" (or even be admitted at all.)
That's because when the F! theater becomes near capacity, CMs will turn over any still-empty seats in ALL sections to the lines of waiting standby guests.

I've been posting about F! since the about the turn of the last century.
If you want to be seated, especially if you want "great seats,"
earlier beats later every time.

If you DO HAVE the F! Dining Pkg., the F! Dessert Pkg. or F! FastPass...
arriving 45 or more min. before showtime can be your best opportunity to get
better seating, especially if that show turns into a "sell-out."
And I've see that happen even at the (so-called) "low attendance" times of year.

Are you sure that you were reading the signs at the top of the rows correctly?
(They can be confusing, since the rows serve the sections on either side.)

But, as always, anything is possible on any given night when the CMs decide what they want to do, for whatever reason.

I’m pretty sure because my kids love Scar and were excited about it but, again, I wasn’t really paying too much attention and the seats were great. I have it booked again soon so I’ll pay close attention this time and report back. Thanks, Robo. Like I stated, I’m definitely not questioning you - I just commented after seeing the map.

Also, love your maps!!!

I’m always interested in new reports. They sometimes predict upcoming changes.
Thanks for the kind words about the maps!

Where is disability seating? Is the view OK?
Fantasmic! is wheelchair/ECV accessible. Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs have the top row of the theater. There are NO center seating areas available for wheelchair guests. I would recommend the upper area to sit in. There is wheelchair parking and seats for your party. I have heard some guests tell me they were not able to sit with/near the person in the wheelchair. I believe it has a lot to do with how early you are seated. You will not want to move your wheelchair once you get situated -- it's just too crowded. See Tips for Touring Disney's Hollywood Studios in an ECV for more information.

I have done the top row a couple times with an ECV, excellent seating and view. Top row is probably the best view in the theater.
