I have never seen Fantasmic so if you could please give me insight, that would be great!!!
We are only at Disney for 4 nights the last week of November.

How long is the show?
Is it worth watching vs. going on rides?
Would a 13 yr old boy like it?
Any other tips?

We have the dining plan and trying to decide if we want to do the Fantasmic Dining Package with Mama Melrose.

It's definitely worth going. It's just under 30 minutes and a 13-year-old would love it. Make sure to either show up early or get a fastpass so you can sit up front.

The dining package is a good value if you're on the DP. It also avoids tying up a FP all day. F! is a great show, definitely worth seeing!

I love Fantasmic! but I don't know if I could swear a 13 year-old would. It's probably worth trying once, for sure. If you don't do he dining package, it is usually easy to get a FastPass later in the day (don't get it as one of your first 3 - there is plenty of availability). An FP for this show will let you sit on the FP side of the theater, but it doesn't really mean you can get there late, as that side will fill up, but'it's nice to have the option of where to sit, and since you can get it as an additional FP, there's no real down side.

It is soo hard to say who will enjoy it and how much, everyone's tastes are soo different but F! is a fav in our family. For us, we spend the entire day at HS so honestly by time F! comes we are done with everything we want to do. We didn't have to choose show or rides because we had completed all of the desired rides by the time it came to head to F! We have done the dining package and enjoyed it and we have also gotten it as a FP as our 5th (or maybe it was 6th) of the day. We had no problem getting FP later on in the day but if we had issues we just would have done regular standby, no big deal. Just make sure you get there fairly early. Since it is an outdoor theater you are free to eat/drink as you like and there are concessions inside the venue which can help pass the time.

As was mentioned, about a 30 minute show. We personally don't care to sit up front (I think people can get wet because they use water in the show and if the wind is blowing just the right way it can spray), really I don't think there is a bad seat in the house!

Only questionable seating are the seats up front. With the large water screens that are used, it's very possible to get between damp and soaked, depending on the wind direction and speed. Might feel nice on a hot summer evening, not so much on the cooler evenings. Viewing from anywhere in the seating area is good.

The CMs open the theater an hour or more before show-time.
Guests at that time will simply walk slowly through the very long pathways to the theater and file in to find a seat.

What a FP+ for F! offers is more CHOICE in seating.

If you DO get a F! FP+, you can choose to sit in either the FP section (virtually the entire left half of the theater) or the Standby section (virtually the entire right half of the theater.)
So, whatever section has the better seating at the time you arrive, you can go there.
Without a FP, you can only choose a seat in the Standby section.

There is a very good chance that you can get a FP+ for F! as a 4th or 5th FP of the day because they issue SO MANY of them (enough to cover nearly the entire left half of the seating.) On many nights, it is possible that you can gat a FP+ for F! as you are walking to the theater.

As to when to arrive at the theater, I'd get to there 45-60 minutes before the show-time.
Even WITH having a FP or Dining Pkg. reservation, don't wait too late.

On busy nights, the CMs can stop holding the reserved sections within 20-30 minutes before show-time, and turn over any available seats to waiting walk-in guests.

Guests who learn how to take advantage of the various available "tools" and timing strategies will be able to take more control over their WDW experiences.

We went once about 10 years ago with a 7 year old and we all thought it was Mehhh..
My DH and I tried again in April and again thought it was Mehhh...

It is definitely dated and focused on the 90's movies. The night we were there we were in the middle of the audience and still got sprayed almost the whole show due to it being windy. We won't go out of our way to see it again.

If you happen to be there on an evening with 2 performances, the 2nd show is generally after the park closes so you won’t miss any ride time.

I can't comment on whether a 13 year old boy would like it (I have girls) I will say we do it at least once and sometimes twice each trip.

You should be able to easily do everything the park has to offer, with some repeats, and still have time for Fantasmic. You just have to look at the show schedule and plan carefully.

It has a lot of traditional Disney characters. If your 13 yo son likes Disney movies from the 80's-2000's then definitely yes. If he is a Star Wars fanatic, then get a good spot for the SW fireworks instead. We love night-time shows, and have seen all of them many times. Here are the favorite preferences for my 9-19 yo kids, nieces, nephews, etc.:

Happily Ever After > Fantasmic! > Star Wars Fireworks > Illuminations > Rivers of Light

They would definitely choose RnR, Tower of Terror, and Toy Story MM over the shows if they have not already had at least one ride on each, but usually choose to see the show again over a repeat ride. Star Tours is often skipped unless it is walk-on or extra FP.

I highly recommend the Fantasmic Dining Package. We went to Mama Melrose and the food was super good, we didn't have the dining package so I can't say anything about that. I can't say whether or not a 13 year old boy would like the show because it all depends on his personality, but I feel like the show has a little something for everyone. It has a ton of Disney characters, a really cool dragon (which was a hit with my nephew), and a ton of fireworks so I feel like most people would enjoy at least some aspect of it. If you do want to sit in the front but also to avoid getting splashed the Dining seating is best for that in my opinion, we were in the front row and only got a very light misting, which was pretty refreshing for after a long, hot day. Although it wasn't very windy the day we went. I 100% think this show is worth it and if you plan your trip right you can get on every ride in the park without having to skip Fantasmic. The dining package gets you far better seats than the Fastpasses, once again only in my opinion. If you work hard and leave Fantasmic fast you might even get to see the Star Wars fireworks if you want to see those too!

We used to care only about the rides. We skipped parades, fireworks, shows, etc. as they were great times to ride things. A few years ago, on an extended trip, we figured we could do it all. We discovered how wonderful most of the shows were. Now, we would never consider skipping things like Fantasmic! They are a critical part of what makes Disney great.

I can answer for our family - our teenagers loved Fantasmic - including our son. It is a great show. Our kids go to see Fantasmic about every other time we are in Disney. If not every time. Enjoy!

We love Fantasmic. It has been one of our favorite shows for a long long time. We also ALWAYS do the Fantasmic Dining package at Mama Melrose. We usually make a reservation for a late lunch... maybe 2:30 or so. The meal is always huge and will fill you up for a while!

The dining package means that you get a nice seat in the middle of amphitheater without having to wait outside of the amphitheater FOREVER!. The show is about 20 minutes long. It is on our "can't miss" list for WDW.

Absolutely worth it! Will your 13 yr. old like it?? Who knows. I know some who do - sure would be worth taking him once - really can't imagine anyone not liking it.

If you have never seen it, it is a not to be missed! we've seen it so many times, that we now skip it on occasion, but that doesn't mean its not good.
I would also try and see the Star Wars firework show at HS. Really fun.
we have done the dining package and really like the seats.
You didn't ask, but I would really try and see all the evening shows.
Happily Ever After at Mk is amazing! You want to be on Mainstreet to see the laser mapping on the castle.
River of Light at AK is very good and unique compared to the other evening shows.
Illuminations at EPCOT is not to be missed. It is a classic and we watch it every year and love it!

Is there truth to the rumor that the appetizer has been eliminated from the package and the price has been lowered by $3? Reviews on another site are claiming this. Thanks!
