Fantasmic -- should I or shouldn't I?

OK - - Once and for all -- is Fantasmic too scary for a 3- and 5- year old boy? I haven't been to Disney for over 20 years, and we are going in a few days. I *think* this is the last "big" decision I need to make. Thanks

Stephanie

It absolutely all depends on your child. We just brought my son (he just turned 3) and he didn't really have a negative reaction to it, but I don't think he understood enough to be scared. He just wished it had more fireworks! On the bus back to the resort we met a family with a 5 year old boy who said he didn't like it because they didn't actually show Mickey slay the dragon!! So it certainly wasn't too scary for him!!

I'm doing it with my 3 year old and one year old and just hoping for the best. I really want to see it and my dh has assured me he will take the kids out if they are scared do I can still watch!

Okay, we took our ds9,dd6 and dd2 and none were scared. We loved it. They break the scary things up with the characters we all love. Also my 6 dd is scared of loud noises and fireworks but she did great. We did it our last night of our trip it was a great ending and by then the 6 and 2 year old were used to all the loud noise from all the fireworks. It's totally worth it!

My kids were 2.5 and 3.5 and they hated it. They were both crying and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. For them it was too loud, too dark, just too scary. My older one loves fireworks but this was just too much for her. But I have friends whose kids loved it. I think you just have to know your children and be willing to leave if necessary. Its also pretty late so I think just being so tired didn't help them either.

It truly depends on your child. I had one that was scared and one that loved it. The fire on the water is what really scared my youngest. We were seated on one of the first rows and could really feel the heat from the flames. It made it a bit too real for him. It is a great show and he loves it now, but we skipped it for several years after he got scared.

I would go and sit at the back of the staduim near the exit and that way if one or both of them get scared you can make a quick exit. We have taken our kids at various ages including the ages of your boys, and never had a problem. DD4 (at the time) looked a bit concerned at times, but never cried or asked to leave. I just told her it was all make believe and all the characters would be out in a bit on the boats. Not a problem for our 3.

I agree that it depends on your child. I haven't been, but I bet my 2 daughters (ages 6 and almost 2) will enjoy it. They like football games, pep rally's, fireworks, and think it's funny when I try to scare them. I say you know your kids best, and if they're sensitive to things like that, then maybe Fantasmic isn't the best thing for them. I'd try it out and see, perhaps, and leave if they don't like it.
