Fantasmic, Pirate Cruise... how chilly does it get?

This is my very first post, although I've been lurking forever...

We have taken the plunge and will taking our girls (5&9) to AKL this weekend for their first Disney experience. I have PS for the Fantasmic Dinner Package and the Pirate Cruise, among others. Here is the dilemma: DH has insisted we are travelling light and won't be bringing anything heavier than fleece pullovers. We are coming from single digit temeratures and he even expects us to travel to the airport like this. I'm not sure this will keep us warm enough, especially during Fantasmic, sitting still on a cold bench for so long, or for the girls' Pirate Cruise at 9:30am over the open water. How chilly is it in the mornings and evenings and is a simple fleece going to be warm enough? Also, do we even need to bring shorts? Thanks! I've learned so much from you guys already!

Welcome to the DIS, MsLefty! We're glad you have joined us. :)

It is almost impossible to guess what the weather will be like this time of year, so if you are not taking jackets I would definitely plan to dress in layers. It can get quite chilly in the evenings, especially if you have low 70's during the day. The chill feels even more intense when you've had just a bit of warm all afternoon.

You're right about the theater being cold because of the seating, so I guess you could tell your DH that you either want to take jackets or you're going to buy them in the parks if you need them. That might scare him into bringing them along! ;)

While it may get warm while you're there, you probably won't need shorts. I'd take jeans/similar weight pants since they're more versatile and then do layers of tops. Short sleeve shirt in case it gets warm enough, long sleeve shirt over it, then fleece pull-over on top for warmth when needed. This way you're flexible.

And if you do get too hot/too cold....don't worry....they sell everything you could possibly need....just think of it as souvenirs! And then maybe next time DH will let you bring whatever you feel like packing!! My SIL changed suitcases while packing and forgot to get all her underwear out of the zipper pocket so mid-way through our trip there she was in the Emporium buying underwear for the rest of the trip :) Couldn't help but tease her about her "Pooh Panties" the rest of the week!!:hyper:

WELCOME:wave:
nice to have you here

i have never been this time of year BUT...

we went in MArch 2002 and packed for warm weather

coming from upstate NY we figured anything would feel warm

most days were nice but there were 2 days that we froze actually

turned on the heat in the rental home we had.

DH learned his packing lesson though

because we were in AK when the cold got tobe to much and i bought disney sweatshirts for everyone.

after that bill he lets me pack what i want

Have a GREAT time on your trip :sunny:
wish i was going too.

I agree w/ the other posters. My parents took us when it went down to 40 degrees and was raining to boot. It was soooo cold we bought the Mickey hats, mittens and scarves. Still have them as souvenirs. But the temperature does fluctuate, usually from the 50's in am to the 70's to the 50's again. Cold enough to make little ones MISERABLE and very cranky. Also, Fantasmic has a water spray/mist in a lot of its seats depending on how the wind blows. We intentionally sat way back and still got misted. At night and in colder temps, this could prove to be a disaster for you. Shivering, damp, and taking a boat or bus back home can ruin a day. But you can also overheat during the days if it gets really hot. I would do what the previous posters say and bring layers. Then you can dress accordingly. Plus, I've been watching the news and it's down in the 40's as of last week in the evenings. The man giving the news was standing in front of the sphere w/ a heavy coat on. Made me rethink my packing for 2 wks from now.

We went for MLK one year and it was 80 every day! Next trip we went early FEb. and it was chilly (warmest day was 72, some cool nights in the upper 40s).

You are smart to take fleece, take hats or earbands and knit gloves too (wish we had those at Fantas). My kids did pirates cruise on a day in the mid-60s, they were fine in pants and sweatshirts.
