Fantasmic or WOC -- which would you pick, if you could only do 1? (more)

I can't decide what to book. We haven't seen either one. We (me, DH, DDs 8 & 11) are going to DLR (staying at GCH) in August. I'd originally planned to book the Fantasmic dessert thing. Then I got excited about WOC, and would prefer to do dinner instead of the dessert box, so I have a AG res booked for the earlier show (considering the picnic instead).

But now I'm thinking about doing Fantasmic instead. The idea of standing for WOC is not really appealing -- we could get seats with Fantasmic, right? And some have said Fantasmic is a better show. We won't be able to do both, unfortunately.

So for those who have seen both, which would you pick for newbies like us (we are not new to DLR, just new to those shows)? Which is a better show, better viewing experience, etc. I'm really torn, and no one IRL can understand my dilemma, lol.

Thanks so much!

Wow, that's tough, we've seen F! many times, always with the dessert seating--and yes, it is actually seats.

We are going in October, and it is possible we'll only be able to see 1 show... thanks to MHP taking up Friday night... unless we luck out and they are doing F! & WOC on both Thursday and Saturday... I digress... I think I would pick F! over WOC... because I love F! so much... but people are saying WOC is so good, I would hate to miss it... Any way you could do the 1st F! show and then since you are going in August they will probably be doing the 3rd showing of WOC and go to that too??

okay I am no help at all... I guess if sitting is important to you, choose F!

oh SNAP! that's easy question,WOC all the way!!
:cheer2:

and here is my reason why: fantasmic is getting old for me. it's just not hitting the excitment button for me, and WOC is new and exciting and magical! and it's just soo cool!and the one thing that WOC has that F! doesn't is options for eating a picnic dinner or a dinner at AG/WT!

Although I have not seen WOC yet, I think your 2 daughters would prefer it over Fantasmic. :)

i have not done the picnic meal or the special dinner at Trattoria for show but i heard it's soo worth it!! :cheer2:

We just got back from our trip and it was our first time seeing either show. I would say do WOC. F! was really fun to see and like others have said it actually has a story line but WOC was amazing. And the standing wasn't really an issue for us since we were so taken in by the show that we didn't even think about it even though we were considerably tired from the rest of the day. Think of WOC as Disney's version of shock and awe.

Ugh! I will probably have to make this decision also. :sad1:

I'll be crossing my fingers that they keep WoC running every day until the New Year!

I have this same dilemma! I have seen Fantasmic before, but long before the dessert seating was offered. We have a 5 year old and an 8 year old. We can really only do 1 late show. I am torn between Fantasmic and WOC. Any thoughts on which might be best for young kids?

I am probably one of the few (maybe only) who would personally chose F! I have not seen WOC, and although the show looks pretty cool and I've heard all the rave reviews, I'd still chose Fantasmic over it any day of the week. Good luck with your decision!

I'd probably pick F! over WoC. The experience as a whole (the seating and show) is much better than the WoC preferred viewing IMO. I've done all viewing options for WoC and the F! preferring viewing(or whatever it is called).

I just like the F! preferring viewing. The seats are great and the drinks and food for the show top it off. You should probably consider I like F! better. To me there is more a classic Disney connection and I like seeing real people on stage.

Perhaps all the hassle with seeing WoC on opening day and the follow day tainted my experience. There was a lot of confusion among where people should go, especially the preferred dinning guests. We've come to find out we never really made it to the preferred area, but close and had a great view of WoC. It is a great show and I want to see it again without having to film and take pictures. To me WoC just doesn't have that cohesive store like F! does. It would be really hard to pick. They are both something to see. Your kids would probably like WoC better. It is very visual and they might just shrug off the cheese and crackers at F!.

I always love F! ever since its debut in 1992, but ever since I have seen WoC during its debut week, I started to make WoC my favorite night time show. But I would say that F! is still my favorite night time show. F! has a great viewing area around the roa for people to sit down on the walkway or stand up in certain areas around the show. You can see WoC around Paradise Bay and don't get the FP for the viewing area. Even though WoC is new and great to watch, there are some problems for viewing the show except if you area a tall person or close to the railings to watch the show.

I have done the F! dessert package and the WoC dining package. They both have advantages and disadvantages, I would prefer the F! dessert package over WoC dining package. I love the variety of desserts and drinks, but the main part of the F! dessert package is the preferred seating for the show and you don't have to get there early in line for the show. With WoC, you have to do the dinner package and get a FP for the show and have to line up again for a good viewing spot for the show.

I'm curious to hear yet if anybody has managed to see the first WOC and the 2nd Fantasmic. I can only say that what I saw of WOC on the live stream premiere looked impressive, but Fantasmic is also impressive.

My initial reaction would be to change your plans so that it's possible to see both shows. However, if you can only see one, then I think you need to determine which show better suits your likes and interests. As much as a person may not want to spoil what they see, in this case, in this instance, knowledge is power.

For example, say your favorite films are Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty. Now based on internet recommendations, you choose to see WOC. You may well love the show, but upon discovering that you missed the Peter Pan sequence and Maleficent dragon battling Mickey in Fantasmic, you may have wished that you'd seen it instead.

So, know what each show has to offer and choose accordingly. And if they both look equally great, then you can't lose.

I should have clarified my response to also say that we did WOC with the WCT dinner packages and F! with the preferred seating. I don't think I would consider F! without the dessert seating - it was a madhouse over there - especially if you have kids. But it was very $$$$$ for a group. So my choice of WOC is based not only on the show but on the relative value of F! seating vs. a the WOC picnic (I don't think I would do the preferred dining again; it was also expensive and I think the picnic section would have been good enough for us, and the food wasn't that great). So considering that I could buy a picnic and probably get a decent view of WOC, that would be my choice. If I were to do WOC again, I would do the picnic. I also just really liked the WOC show - it was impressive.

Me too, the picnic is good enough if I was running over to the park later in the day. If I didn't visit often, I would probably pop for the preferred dining. On a whim I'd do the picnic again if I didn't or couldn't get a FP for the day.

I have managed to see the 9pm WoC and get to the 10:30 F! (with a great spot). However, it was not a very busy day and it was a little nutty. Knowing how they rope off the hub and the right side of main street probably helped a lot. I wouldn't recommend it and with small kids probably impossible to view F! properly. You have to fight Disneyland entrance traffic, fireworks exit, F! exit and everyone else getting over to 10:30. If it was not a low crowd day I wouldn't have gotten the great spot.

Can you do it even on a busy day? Probably. However, I recommend getting a good spot for F!. It is such a good show and deserves a little waiting time.

We are also going in August and stay at the grand and we have decided to book both. Missed Murphy by a couple of days last year and we are curious about WOC. The WOC will most likely be picnic, but when we did the family vote, "F" was number 1. We are just waiting to see how things fly, no one wants to stand.

Why limit yourself to just one show try to see both. Since you havent seen either one then they will both feel magical especially seeing them for the first time. Often the original can be just as exciting as the new show. Plan well and go with people that feel the same about the shows.

We didn't have good seats for F when we were there at the end of May so it was hard to see and I thought the story line was pretty dark for younger kids. We were able to see the testing of WOC from our deck at the VGC and my kids loved it. There was just so much to see and it did feel magical.
