I heard this is something we shouldn't miss but I need more info.
I have heard a lot of talk about dinner packages. Do you have to
go with a dinner package? Can you just see the show. Where is it?
Is there an extra cost to see this or is it included in admission?
Please advise.

Fantasmic is included in your park admission. It's at the Studios. The dinner package gets you reserved seating at Fantasmic so you don't have to line up an hour or two early (depending on the time of year you go). Of course, the dinner package is not free...

There is a ton of info here:

You do not have to do a dinner package to see fantasmic. It is in MGM. Everyone who has park admission can see it. Those with the dinner package have reserved seating, otherwise you just want to make sure you get there early enough to get seats. If you have never seen it, I would definately go. It is a really cool show.

If you'll have the Disney Dining Plan you can use it to get the Fantasmic Dinner Package. This is what we plan on doing for our trip in December.

If you're going during a busier time of year, you should really consider doing the package as it guarantees you a seat in the amphitheater without having a very long wait.

If you're going during a less busy time, then you can get by without the dinner package. But if you're going to have dinner at a table service restaurant anyway, you might as well book it. :)

If you don't have the dining package...or even if you do, here's what we like to do:

Get counter service suppers at the place near the entrance to B&B, RnRC and Fantasmic. Depending on when you go (how busy it is), you'll need to do this anywhere from 45 min. to 1 1/2 hrs. before the show. There are at least 3 different places you can go to get burgers, pizza, salads, etc. Take the trays right into the Fantasmic seating area and eat there. There are restrooms once you're in the area and even snack stands if you want dessert. This way, you get a decent seat toward the middle (but don't sit close to the front...2/3 of the way back is good).

We've done the dinner package, and for us the seating has been better doing it this other way. We also tend to limit our sit-down meals to save on $ and those extra calories. ;)

We just got home yesterday at 2 AM from WDW. Our family (mom, dad, 13yo son, 8yo daughter) went for 10 days last year, same time, and did not catch a single fireworks/parade show for the entire trip! This year we vowed to catch at least one of each so I booked the Hollywood & Vine Fantasmic package. We were on the meal plan so it was easy - because we'd never been to Fantasmic we weren't sure what to expect and scoped out our place in line at the reserved entrance near the front of the park @ MGM. By the time they opened the gates for us (what a trek to the show from the gates!!) we were shocked to find the center section up front (first 20 rows or so I would guess) were already packed! What gives? Now don't get me wrong, our "reserved" seats off the the right were great but only because we got there so early and were able to get the 3rd or 4th row up and all the way over to the aisle so we were close to center seats which were not reserved. We did really enjoy the buffet dinner at H&V (we opted for early dinner, eating at 4:30P) and waiting in line for the gates to open & then waiting the hour or so in our seats was really okay, but only because it gave us a much needed rest off our weary feet! After all this ranting.....bottom line - the kids thanked me for making them wait!!!! Fantasmic was great!!!! DO NOT MISS IT!~~~~~~~

I`ve done a dinner package at HW&V everytime I`ve ever seen Fantasmic and always got seats in the front center row, it is amazing, we just love it, it doesnt compare to any other fireworks show, JMO ( I like having a seat)
Illuminations is wonderful also, but I hate fighting the crowd for a good spot!
