I wondered if this thread was lost forever. Does the trick still work? I figured after all these years everyone would have figured it out by now. It worked great for us years ago.

The last 2 times we've done it were July of 2011 and April of 2012, but both times there were a couple of others already over there, but still plenty of room for us. I'm thinking it was 2009 when we went and there were so many people that night that knew of the trick and were excited to use it that we got a better spot at one of the light towers already up...

We are going in June and will want to see F! We have seen it multiple times but my son has grown more and more enamoured with Maleficent in her dragon form so I want to make sure we get a good view.

Is this light trick still a good one? Have too many people found out?

Will it work if you have an ECV? Will CM's let you stay in your ECV while waiting for F!? I could stand for most of the show, but wouldn't make it through waiting ahead of time and the show.

The light tower trick is my favorite way to watch F! It doesn't require gobs of time holding your place before the show and I kind of like watching the control panel in front. Plus it's dead center, so a great view!

I have never seen fantasmic at disneyland, only disneyworld and would really like to catch it on my next trip. Thank you so much for this post it is so helpful having pictures!

Fantasmic! now requires a FP. I believe the light tower bonus is now a thing of the past.

The Light Tower Trick is not exactly a thing of the past, but it's nearly as easy to do anymore. The Light Tower is in one of the FP viewing areas (yellow, I think) and if you get a yellow FP and are directed to that area when you arrive, you can still use the Light Tower Trick. However, given that it's hard to know in advance which colored FP you'd get and where the CMs will direct you when you return, I wouldn't count on being able to use the Light Tower Trick. I was sent to that area when the FP system first debut and it was the only rail spot left (everywhere else was already taken), so we stood there and had a good view when the tower rose. So it can still work, but it's more a matter of luck now.
