I dread exiting MGM after Fantasmic is over and catching a bus back to our hotel. It will just be myself and my 6 year old. Is there anyplace where we could grab an ice cream and sit on a park bench until the masses disappear? I have this fear of losing him in the crowd (he's always been in a stroller in prior years) or having him get trampled on or pushed..... I know at the MK this is one of our favorite things to do - relax on Main Street with a snack while all the people are leaving. Can this be done at MGM also?

We were just there last week and it wasn't so bad. As you look at the stage, the exit to the right is faster but I think most of those seats are saved for those with the dinner package. The earlier you arrive, the closer to the exits you will be.
We didn't do Fantasmic the second night we were at MGM and got some great pictures in front of the sorcerer's hat with no one around. So instead of turning left to the exit, turn right and get a photo op at the hat. We also browsed the shops while everyone departed.

Thank you for your reply, Suzflee. I didn't realize there was another exit in the theatre.

Does anyone know if there are any snack places/ice cream open after Fantasmic lets out. I know the shops stay open after the park is closed, but I can't remember if there are any food places along the main street leading out of the park.....

we always are one of the last to leave the theatre after Fantasmic. we also don't like to fight the crowds. I don't remember seeing any food stands open over the last few trips. I suggest getting some extra popcorn or cotton candy and a soda and then find a spot along the exit route and people watch. have fun...

I have always dreaded this as well. That is why we skipped Fantasmic the first 4 times we went. This last trip we wanted to see it. We did do the package so we didn't have to wait in line at the beginning. The exit was no different than when leaving the MK after it closes. Go and have a great time. This show is worth it!:D

When we were there last summer, we stuck around while the crowds left, then left without the mod. There is an ice cream stand at the entrance to the Hollywood Hills Theatre that was still open and had a line of people. We prefer buying snacks before the show, then sitting back and finishing them after it is over. By the time we leave the park, it is no problem at all!

On the street towards ToT, coming from the main street, there is a candy/sweets shop on the left hand side of the street. I think its called Starring Rolls or something like that.

Not sure if they had ice cream, but they had candy, caramel apple, fudge, coffee, etc.

Perfect! Thanks for all your help! Hopefully, Starring Rolls will still be open even after the park is closed.

One other question - how long can we hang out in the park before risking missing the last bus back to our hotel?

We didn't so much have a problem with the crowds exiting the park...it was the crowds exiting the stadium! Horrendous! I am doing the package next time just to be closer to the exit, lol. I felt like I was in a herd of cattle, easily the least enjoyable experience of the entire trip. Once we *finally* got out of the stadium area it wasn't so bad.

When we did Fantasmic, we sat after the show for about 5 minutes and then went to the Villian's shop and did some shopping. That store is the only one in Disney that features Villians. At least that was the case when we were last there....

I loved that show. My DD doesn't feel it is worth the wait, but she is not a show/parade/fireworks type of person. My DGD and I loved it.

Next time, I will take my stadium seat. That cement is hard on the bottom!!!:sunny:

Starring Rolls is not the place being described -- it's a small restaurant in the same building as the Brown Derby. The candy store will probably be open and has lots of yummy stuff. There also is a place that sells ice cream on the left just past the produce place as you walk toward ToT -- no idea whether it would be open.

I'd suggest using the main exit and then sitting at the tables at Anaheim Produce (across the street when you get onto Sunset) and just enjoy the views. Plus, its a great time to get photos of Tower or Coaster.
