Is it worth doing without a dining package? Or is the wait too much?

I was wondering too since we have never done it. Can someone explain? Do you stand in a line for an hour or more just to get in and have to fight for a seat or do you go in and sit down to wait the hour before the show? Can you bring dessert/drinks in there?

When we went 2 years ago without a package we lined up pretty early (I forget exactly but I think more than an hour) and they let us sit down to save our seats. We had brought food with us so we basically ate dinner while waiting. Even so my kids (ages 10 & 6) got pretty antsy waiting.
This was in January (value season). I have heard that other times the wait is much more horrible.

If you get a package, there is a section roped off for you and a separate entrance. But it is still first come as to seats for everyone who bought a package. The only downside is that if Fantasmic is cancelled due to rain, there are no refunds.

If you have a dining plan you might as well get a package with either H&V or Mama Melrose since those are just 1TS.
