I'm going to MGM-Studios on Monday, 12/9/02(Low Season). Is the dinner package worth it during low-attendance season?

This will be our first time watching the show & I wanted good seats (middle section), but I don't want to wait 2 hours in line. Are the dinner package seats good? During this time, would I be able to get good seats without the package & without having to wait more than an hour?

Please help me out! I want to make my trip as magical & stress free as possible!!

Thanks a bunch!

Hopefully, some folks who visited more recently may follow up---

When we went last Feb, we did the Fantasmic Dinner & Show...there are two now, but we did the one that you DON'T give a credit card ## for. You have to reserve it once you get to your resort. We had dinner at Mama Melrose at about 5:00, and we went to the show at about 7:00, with show time at 7:30. The seats for Fantasmic were off on the right hand side, not the best but certainly not the worst, but we didn't wait in line at all. We got a good view regardless.
Now there is a another dinner package that Disney is trying out for like $40 pp (the feedback from everyone here as far as I can tell spells rip off.) You need to call the dining ## to reserve with your credit card. When I checked into this for our upcoming trip, I even had the operator tell me it wasn't worth it. (She of course said she wasn't supposed to tell me that, so shhhhh! )
My suggestion is...go with the one that you need to reserve when you get to your resort. It allows you to order from the normal menu of your chosen restuarant, and you still get the "reserved" seating of Fantasmic.

The dinner package seats are on the right side of the theater. If you want to sit in the middle section, the dinner package will not do you any good. Personally, I think the dinner package seats are just fine.

You will not need to stand in line 2 hours to get a seat on a Monday night in early December. To get a seat in the middle section, I'd get in line about an hour ahead of time, though. There are food stands at the back of the theater. You can get something to eat while you are waiting or bring in something from one of other counter service restaurants.

Enjoy the show!

Katherine -

I'm planning on doing Fantasmic the same night as you. I've spent some time thinking about this and decided to wait until I get to MGM that morning. If it appears crowded, I'll make a FDP ressie then, otherwise I'm just going to head into the regular section an hour early with some food from one of the vendors at the bottom of the hill!! :smooth:

We did the Fantasmic/HBD package and were disappointed in the seats for Fantasmic show. They were way over on the right side. We found out later we missed a lot of the action sitting so "off center".

Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the info!! I decided to the same as travelin'tigger & see how crowded it is that day. If it's not bad, I'll just wait. I don't mind waiting an hour for a good seat.

travelin' tigger- maybe will cross paths without knowing :p . Hope you enjoy the show!!

Thanks again

We went to Disney the first week of December 2000 and could not get into Fantasmic. People were wating for 1.5+ hours. Before the show even started, people way ahead of us in line started leaving, and when we asked why, they told us it was standing room only, and you couldn't see anything.

Now this really surprised us, as we go to Disney the same time every other year, so the crowds for this show were not expected. But then again, it was new. Maybe the newness has worn off.

But just in case it hasn't we did make a dinner/show package ressie at Hollywood and Vine for the day we spend at MGM so we will not miss this show. Yes, we did have to prepay this. It was $17.99 adult, which includes the tip, so it came out financially reasonable. I don't mind prepaying for some things. It is nice to get there and not have all of the expenses.

Have a great trip.
