Fantasmic Dinner Package worth it?

My wife and I will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary next week in WDW. We already have one ADR with O'Hana on Wed night, and Friday night we have Boma. I was thinking about trying to get the Fantasmic Dinner Package and possibly do either Mama Melrose's or Hollywood Brown Derby. We are both very lean eaters (hey, I've lost a bit of weight since April and I'm not gonna stop now) and I was curious what everyone's choice would be if they had to decide between these two places. Also, is the extra $7.00/person worth it for the Hollwood Brown Derby vs Mama Melrose's?

We've done 2 FDP's the last 2 times we were at WDW, both the same time of year you're going. IMHO the FDP isn't necessary to get a seat for Fantasmic at that time of year. Both times we found that there were seats available as late as 20 minutes before start. If I were you I'd plan a meal at an MGM resort like Spoodles either before or after Fantasmic.

The dinner package is great because they have reserved seating for those people rather than waiting almost 2 hours for a so so viewing. I would recommend the Brown Derby for dinner. The selection is better and the atomsphere is more romantic. Be sure to tell the check in person at your hotel that you are celebrating your anniversary. My brother and his wife were with us last year at Saratoga Spring and they left balloons in our room for them. Also you can get a pin that says you are celebrating your anniversary and sometime that can get you specail things, like free desserts and some time fast passes.

The dinner package is great if you don't want to wait in line to see Fantasmic. That being said, the stadium is really nicely made so that if you are seated in the back you can still see the action. When my kids were smaller we did it all the time. It just made my vacation a little easier and I'll definitely pay extra to make my life easier.

Before thinking about this too much, call and see if anything is even available. It's extremely likely that everything is long sold out for next week.
