What is the deal with the Fantasmic Dining Package. Does that give you preferred seating at the show or atleast guaranteed seating?

It gives you reserved seating. You need to show up somewhat early, but not as early as you would to get general seating.

But about 20-30 minutes before showtime, they do open the "reserved" seating area up to everyone.

Technically, yes. There is an entire section blocked off for package guests. It is probably not "better" seating than you could get if you waited in line. If you get there early enough, you will have your pick of seats in the whole section. The advantage is that you don't have to wait in line for a couple of hours with the crowd and then risk getting standing room. You do have to get there early, as they do open up the package guest seating section to the general public about a half hour before showtime.

So if you show up five or ten minutes before the show begins, you might still run the risk of standing room, package or no package.
