I am thinking about booking the Fantasmic Dining Package for Mama Melrose. Is this a good idea or not? How exactly does this work? I would love any info I can get to make a good decision.
Thanks:)

It is almost impossible to get the dinner show, BUT if you are going to the show, FOR SURE try it this is the way. You get good seats and you don't have to wait.
M.M. is pretty good food too.

Considering the switch to 180 days meant your trip week was open to make ADRs a couple of days ago, if you want to try to get the Fantasmic package you better get on the phone ASAP. You may already be too late. Back when you could only make ADRs 90 days in advance, a lot of people complained that they were on the phone the minute the Disney phone lines opened, but by the time they got off hold and with a live person, the Fantasmic packages were already gone. They are very hard to get. We did the Mama Melrose package for our trip last December. You get to pick one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert from the menu. They give you a ticket that lets you go in a separate line to get into Fantasmic. They have a section roped off for package people. They aren't in the center so they aren't the best seats- they are on a side. For us with a little one it was definitely worth not having to stand waiting outside the theater for an hour and a half. At Mama Melrose they told us to be there 45 minutes before the show started. We did that and walked right in and sat down. I've heard that when it is really crowded they still tell you to come 1 hour ahead of time. I've also heard that there was a time when they did not maintain the separate line for the Fantasmic package, but I've heard they had enough complaints that they went back to having the separate line.

FYI- I called yesterday and today to try for 1/24/2010 and 1/28 and there was nothing open :sad2: I'm not giving up yet though. We just hate to wait so long with our DS, and we decided we would try to do Fantasmic this trip since we haven't been since before he was born, and that by doing the package we would hopefully not have to wait as long. I was really surprised that there was nothing though, because our 90 was Monday, and wasn't the 180 day switch on Tuesday? Like I said though, we're going to keep calling every few days to see if something opens up.

You're right, but remember that resort guests could book dining reservations at 90 days out for up to ten days of the trip. So even though your 90 day date was Monday, some people could have been booking the week before for that date if it was toward the end of their trip.

We tried booking 1/21 on our 90 day date (1/21 is the second day of our trip) - no luck. I'm hoping they will add some more Fantasmic! shows in January and we might luck out with a package on a new date. We will also keep checking for cancellations just in case.

YES...keep calling. I was unable to get a Fantasmic package at my 90+10 in September, but just last week snagged one. I assume it was because it's now around the 45-day mark AND because there's a $10/person fee for Fantasmic package no shows.

You get to pick one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert from the menu.
According to All Ears this changed in June 2009. Now at Brown Derby and Mama Melrose you don't pay one fixed price instead you order off the menu and pay for what ever you order. I would assume that would mean if you were on the regular DDP you wouldn't get an appetizer.

Recent reports are that on the dining plan at MM and Brown Derby the appetizer IS still included on FDP only. That could of course change at any time.

Also keep in mind that all FDP reservations are very early, usually before 5 PM.

All Ears' description is a bit confusing. Word on the DIS is that the MM FDP is $35 per adults, and you pick whatever appetizer, entree, and dessert on the menu (except maybe for the appetizers listed for two people). You can't book a FDP at MM and split a flatbread. You have to pay $35 per adult regardless of what you order.

As TDC Nala said, appetizers are currently included on the DDP with the FDP only.

Is there still a set price for BD? I won't be on DDP so I'll be paying oop.

I called about 10 days after my 90 day opened up and was unable to get MM's but H&V and BD were still available. They also told me we'd still need to get to F! an hour and a half early! I hope that's not true!!

I don't think H&V prices were too outrageous- we're going OOP too.

My wife and I had used the Fantasmic Dining Plan last Sept at Brown Derby and we both got an appetizer even though we were on the dining plan. 2TS credits each.

We have used the package for every trip we have gone on because Fantasmic is my favorite show and we both like to eat, so it is a win-win.

I would rate the resturants 1) Brown Derby, 2) Hollywood and Vine, 3) Mama Melrose. YMMV.

I think the wording on allears just means there's not a "set" menu. You order off the menu just like everyone else. For the fixed price of the package, you may choose 1 appetizer, 1 entree and 1 dessert. At least, that's what I've seen reported here .....

This was our favorite meal on the DDP and we had the Fantasmic Pkg, too. We were there just last friday and it was a nice break from the heat. Our server was the best one we had on the whole trip. We did Hollywood and Vine last time and I didn't care for the buffet but at Mama Melrose we had an appetizer, entree and a dessert with a beverage all for just 1table per person. It is definately on my list to go back again...:thumbsup2

Yes, it seems like it was listed at about $50 each for adults. I don't remember the kids' prices.

I thought I saw on allearsnet that it was now a la carte...but that could be wrong and I could've misread...:confused3

Here's from allearsnet:

As of June 2009, you may order from the Brown Derby or Mama Melrose a la carte menu

We had Fantasmic pkg. at Mama Melrose just last Tuesday. The set price was 32.99. With tax the meal was 35.14 and tip was NOT included. The meal included appetizer, entree, dessert and non-alcoholic drink. We ordered off the regular menu.

You still have a set price, but you do not have a set menu. A la carte means you order off the regular menu.
