Just trying to figure out if it is worth it to do a Fantasmic! Dining Event, probably at Hollywood and Vine. Anyone have any input if this is worth it or not? Please tell me about your restaurant experiences and what the prefered seating was like. Thanks!

Well i did this in november 2009. Hollywood and vine was great. The only thing is the seats at fantasmic are to the side but u still can see veru well so for me not having to wait in tje long line with a two year old was great and we r doing it again this yoear.

I HIGHLY Recommend it.... above is the review I wrote for H&V...

Now.. mind you I am one of the few people who actually enjoyed H&V...

Determined to try all F! Dining experiences... DS18 and I went to Hollywood's Brown Derby in May 2010....

Believe it or not... I actually preferred the food at Hollywood & VIne ! Maybe HBD just having an 'off' day... I REALLY wanted to love it !

The Seats are Fabulous but what is more fabulous is seeing the LONG LONG lines that you have avoided... the set up has changed since my review above... now you meet near B&B... but still the same feeling of having VIP access...
Have a fabulous trip !

We're with you - we LOVE H&V! We've gone twice in a row and now this a "must do" on our itinerary! The food is awesome and you don't have to worry about getting in line for Fantasmic 2 hours before the show. We even brought my folks this past November and they loved it too!!

Thanks everyone! I was trying to check for reservations online and found that September looked like it was unable to be booked for any day at any restaurant. There were no highlighted days in September at all! There were highlighted days for every month leading to September, but none in September. Do you think that Fantasmic! will be unavailable then? I did try calling Disney (3X) and no one was able to figure out why September was unavailable.

Personally my family hated it. The food was Cafeteria quality at best. The seats and table did not even appear to be wiped down after the last customers had used it plus they divided our party of 14 that had ADR's between two tables. Then when there were three separate checks still pulled the mandatory 18% gratuity on us because we were more than a party of 8. The service was not worth this. When we complained to management then they told us because we left gratuity that meant we were satisfied. This place has the distinction of being the one of two places we will never return to.

While I loved the Fantasmic package and not having to line up one hour+ for general seating, I also was not a fan of H&V. We went Aug '07 and May '09. The food wasn't very good and neither was the service. We went twice (gave it a second chance) and we couldn't believe we got the same server on both trips!!! This was just our experience, but it is definitely great for the Fantasmic seating.

It's probably a glitch on the website. I find it to be funny with things like that, especially dining reservations.

I would try looking online again later and then trying calling again later if the website still isn't working.

If you are having a hard time with the on line reservation system, call. The do still take reservations overt he phone.

It's been a few years since we've eaten at H&V, but we really enjoyed it when we did.

As for the package, we liked not having to wait in line for F! for an hour before the show. but, beware that you do still need to get there early if you want a good seat.

You know, I did call and all they could say was that they couldn't get anything up either. This ever happen to anyone?

I was just on there and had no issues booking things for september. Are you just not able to find the F! package for your trip....or are you unable to book anything at anytime?

I had the same problem with booking the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Buffet and I just called a minute ago. They said that WDW hasn't opened up reservations for it yet, so that's why it's not showing on the website. She didn't know when they would be open. It looks like it's the same for all of the "Dining Events" including Fantasmic.

I'm just going to check back every day... I'll probably be doing that anyway since I'm a little obsessed with planning this trip! :)

Question with regard to Fantasmic! packages in general (by the way, we did H&V and it was good, but the buffet thing was kind of a pain after being on our feet all day). This time we want to try something new, heard Mama Melrose was great, but unfortunately no dinner packages are available at the time we wish to eat (although I did get normal ADRs at Mama's for 6:00 pm).

But my question relates to the Fantasmic! package deal itself and whether it is really necessary. I know the reserved seating is nice, but when we did it last time we got drenched by the fountains (windy night) which also caused my relatively new video camera to go on strike (my mistake for trying to video tape in the mist!). Also, I recall there not really being a "bad" seat in the house, and it appeared that everyone who came in got a seat.

Is it possible that you would be turned away if you just do a normal ADR and take your chance coming in right before show time? We are so not picky about where we sit so we're willing to take a chance and sit wherever. As long we can get in :) I also read on the dining reservations page that seating for the show is NO LONGER GUARANTEED anyway, so I'm just wondering if it really is worth taking an earlier 3:00-ish dinner just to get the package deal.

We're going in beginning of May when crowds do not appear to be too bad, and touringplans.com rates the park as a "5.6" on the day we're going. I just want to know whether there's a chance we're not getting in at all if we just do the normal ADRs.

Any advice for the seasoned Disboarders would be most appreciated!

2- That would depend on how close to the front you were seated and, of course, how windy the weather, in general, and in what direction the wind happened to be blowing on that night.

3- That can totally depend on the crowd on the night that you attend. And that can vary a lot.

4- The theater can fill to capacity well before show-time on many evenings,
but, on other nights, seats can still be found right up until the show begins.

1- No one can predict exactly how large the crowds will be or how early you should go to find a seat for Fantasmic! on any given day.
It has totally to do with the whim of the crowd at DHS on that day, and the general crowd LEVELS.
How much time you wish to "invest" in waiting is a personal decision. We have never done the formal Dinner Package, and have always seen the show (dozens of times).

(Take all of these as "average" numbers, sometimes the crowd will be MUCH greater and the theater can fill up much sooner.)

VERY Busy days:
If you go to the first show of the evening (or "only" show that evening), if you arrive about 75-120 minutes before show-time, you can sit just about anywhere.
45-60 minutes before: Outside seats likely still available.
30-40 Minutes: will vary between seats at edges and rear of theater to SRO or even "closed" to further guests.

Yes, the lines can start forming over 2 hours before the show-time.

At about 120 min. before show-time, they will open the gates and begin allowing guests in line to approach the theater seating.

(See my maps. It is a very long ramp.)

They will continue with the lines of guests walking in until the theater is completely filled or the show begins, whichever comes first.

They will "hold open" the Dining Pkg. seating area ONLY for guests who have the Dining Pkg. voucher.

BUT, if the theater is over-crowded (a very likely scenario in 2009)
then, at about 35 min. before show-time,
the CM's will cease holding the DP area open for DP voucher guests
and, at that time, begin to allow ANYONE
who still needs a seat to sit in (any seats left) the DP area.

Busy days:
If you go to the first show of the evening (or "only" show that evening), if you arrive about 75-120 minutes before show-time, you can sit just about anywhere.
60 minutes before: Good seats
25-35 Minutes: will vary between seats at edges and rear of theater to SRO or even "closed" to further guests. (The crowd of "last-minute" arrivals can be slow to get seated before show-time.)

Off-Season (not busy days):
You should be OK to enter by 30-50 minutes before, but you'll likely be seated to the outer edges, and/or way at the back.

Dining Package:
New Dining Pkg. Entrance was added in mid-Sept. 2009.
If you do the Fantasmic! Dinner Pkg. you still SHOULD enter by AT LEAST 35-45 minutes ("safer" at 45 minutes) before show-time and still be guaranteed "pretty good" seats (not my "first choice" area, but fine), regardless of crowd-levels. Remember, the DP is only valid for the first show of the evening, if there are 2 or more. If you do have DP and you spy some seats outside the DP "reserved" area, you are free to choose to sit anywhere outside that area you like, no problem.

If there are TWO Fantasmic! shows in one evening, the second one will have lower crowd level than the first one. You can arrive a bit later (generally, 45-60 minutes) and still find a seat.
(Some say less advance time will be needed, but I'm cautious.)

Be aware that the second show waiting area will LOOK like the show is "too crowded".
That's because they HOLD the 2nd crowd outside the theater while the CMs CLEAN it after the first crowd has exited.

Then, they will let those waiting together in that big group IN... all at once, and there will be PLENTY of room.

(The theater seats over 7,000 guests.)

When you enter the theater, there will be CMs along the way directing the flow of traffic, but you may (if you are early enough to have a choice) simply choose any open seats in the theater to be your own.
If you want to exit more quickly, choose a seat farther back and to towards audience-right.
If you want to be immersed in the show (and sometimes, immersed in water-mist, if the wind is blowing "in") choose a seat towards the front.

We like to eat our evening meal while waiting for Fantasmic! to start.
You can bring in items from the counter-service places in DHS, or they DO have concession stands at the rear of the theater serving "baseball stadium-type" food and drinks. Yes, even beer, sold strictly ONE-at-a-time, one-only-to-a-person, so a single person can't go and buy beer for other members of a group... all guests wanting to buy a beer must be present in-person at the counter.
We have a hot dog, maybe a pretzel, later some popcorn or cotton candy (Disney Health Food).

Click above for the "menu."

But, nothing ALWAYS happens the same way at WDW.
I would be cautious about assuming anything, as WDW has been experiencing
unpredictable (sometimes record-breaking) crowds even over the past couple of years.

If its IMPORTANT to see a particular show, arriving a bit too early will be better than arriving a bit late.

If its not a really big deal to see a particular show, you may certainly arrive closer to show-time and just see if you get lucky.
Many folks do.

We did the package when it first came out years and years ago and have not done it since and we have never had a problem seeing Fantasmic. I don't really like the eating options in HS and the seats aren't that great with the package, so just not worth the cost of a mediocre meal. So many other restuarants in Disney I prefer to spend my money at. Plus the package times are always so early.

We usually head into the theater about 30-45 minutes ahead of the show. By the time we walk all the way up the ramp (do not underestimate how far this is), park the stroller, find seats, make a bathroom stop with DS, etc we usually only have about 10 minutes to wait. We are usually in the left 3rd of the theater, but there really isn't a bad seat for the show. We usually try to grab some snacks down near Tower of Terror before heading in. The lines inside are atrocious.

I will say it is much easier to see the second show (if offered) than the first. Also, if Fantasmic is added on a night you are there (check the times guides) go then and not on the regularly scheduled night when many have plans.

We just did it last week, during a VERY crowded day at DHS. Went to H & V and were pleasantly surprised by the food. It was basic-ish fare, meats, veggies, pastas but it was tasty enough and far better than I was expecting. Good options for kids too.

As for the seating...we got to the theater at 8:05 and the FDP seats were basically empty (though lots of people were starting to show up at that point) - I had been panicking because I didn't realize the walk to the theater was so long and had intended to be there before 8:00 so I was happy that the reserved seating was plentiful even a bit after 8. The rest of the theater was completely full, wall-to-wall people. So, for that reason alone, if you want to see it, it's worth doing the pkg. And those seats are NOT comfortable at all so anything longer than a half hour of waiting would have really stunk.

The seats are to the right, facing the stage so you're not dead on and I expect the center seats are a bit better but they were totally fine and we could see everything.

We usually go during the "off" season when there are only a couple of offerings of Fantasmic during the whole of our stay. That also means that EVERYONE else needs to squeeze one of those two showings into their plans as well. While you can never exactly predict crowd sizes for the shows, I just find that having the package booked makes for a much more relaxed day at the HS for us. There's not that niggling notion hanging over our heads..."should we head over and wait for Fantismic an hour and a half early? 2 hours? Should we try to squeeze in ONE more ride/show, or will that put us too far back in the crowd?" Again, it's never an exact science, but anything we can do make our experience more relaxed and still enjoy as much as we can is worth it to us!:woohoo:

have done the package numerous times...once with H & V (Lousy service, incredibly noisy and just so-so food.) Have done Mama Melrose many times, and we liked it every time (but service is slow there) We recently did Brown Derby and though expensive it was definitely a favorite for us (we were on Deluxe Dining so not such a big deal using 2 TS for it.) Service was outstanding and the food was signature quality for sure. Not near as noisy/crowded feeling as the other DHS options.

We LOVE the reserved seating arrangement...sure you're not center stage, but don't know how early you have to get there to get those seats! As PP have said, the bleacher style metal seating is not comfortable at all so we appreciate minimizing the sitting time. And love walking in less than an hour to showtime and having seats there for us.

Do get there by 35 minutes before show time...we've been there when the rest of theater is packed & they open up the reserved area at 30 minutes. Course we've also been there when they didn't take the ropes down until 3 minutes before the show so you never know:3dglasses

Robo! Thanks for all that information. That is so going to help make plans. I do hope the reason I cannot get online to make ressies for Fantasmic! in September is because they are not available yet. I am actually trying to help a friend of mine with her plans. Both she and her husband are deployed in Afghanistan and this will be their first trip (with their DS14 and DD10). It will be a celebration for them to be all back together safely! This is the only ressie I have been unable to get for them so far. Just gotta keep trying!
