Fantasmic dessert seating

I did it Sunday. You still have to check in and I recommend you do get their early, especially if you book the 9PM show (first show).

I booked the second show because I wanted to watch the fireworks then head over for our reserved seating. I think the package was worth it. I really really like they include some real food besides just dessert. You get cheese and crackers and grapes. It is not a dinner substitute, but after eating dinner at 6, it was a nice snack.

I was thinking of doing the 2nd show as well so that we can see the fireworks first. I am guessing that we would still line up at 8pm to get our assigned seats? Then we could watch the fireworks and hustle over to the seating area? DS is 14 and taller than me so no worries about being in the front for us.

I'm really short (5' tall) and I'll have my 2-year old on my lap. Do you guys have any suggestions on what row would be the best for us to choose? I would love to aim for the front row, but don't know if I could handle waiting in line for 2 hours since I'll probably have her while DH & DD1 go on rides. Are the middle/back rows really bad for people - like me - who are probably short even when seated? :rotfl:

Had premium seating last year with two 9 yr olds. I got there probably 30 minutes before the start of line up and there were probably 10 or 12 people in front of me, some of them for the 2nd showing. Like you, I could not let my two kids leave the area, but there was an area where I could still see the kids and they could sit on benches ( just off the walkway on the way to critter country, almost in front of the Haunted Mansion) while I stood in line. I think we got seats in the second row, but I was not careful enough as there were some posts that the kids were not tall enough to see around. Luckily, they were able to move to some steps that were still within the premium seating area and see very well. This year, (next week) I am going to be in line a little earlier ( I have other adults with me this year so kids can go with them) and actually go and sit in the seats when I pick them or at least have the CM point them out physically to me. I was a bit bothered last year after paying the $$ and having the girls not be able to see well in their assigned seats, but it did work out. I do not plan to have that happen this year. I still think this is a better option, because since there are actual chairs you know what you get when you sit down, as opposed to having an experience like you had and having people move in to your area after you had staked it out for so long.... people can be so rude!!
Good Luck

... --warning, all traffic is one-way immediately before the show starts and the women's bathroom is at the wrong end of that one-way route....

Which way is the "one-way" going?
And... is there a recommendation as to specifically which bathroom(s) would be the most convenient/easily accessible/returnable from before sitting down at 8:30? I would love to be sure we are settled comfortable for the duration and won't have to get up in the middle of the show... but definitely don't want to be stuck in a horrendous mess just trying to get back to our seating area... :scared:
Could definitely use any suggestions on which direction to head for the potty just prior to the actual show seating!?
I was thinking perhaps if there were some over in the area by Winnie the Pooh ride...? Or would that be the wrong direction?:confused3
Gack... so much to know... so much to know...!! LOL :scared1:

Can't wait until July!!

8pm is when they start checking people in (aka you pick your seats). You want to be there before this time, how much before depends on what seats you want. The 2nd show tends to be less booked, but in summer I'm sure both will be busy.

We picked out seats at 8pm then headed over to the castle. It was still early enough to get pretty good seats in front of the castle (the street, you sit then CMs make everyone stand at about 9pm). Then we took our time getting over to F! You'll want to get over there by 10 so you can have the full time before the show to relax and enjoy the dessert box. Making it to F! by 10 after stopping by the restrooms was not a problem. It is an easy way to see two shows in one night if you party doesn't have a problem staying up.

Does not work like that in the summer. The RoA area is so jammed that you are luckey if you could make it to the hub in 1/2 hour. Summer shows always seem book and very crowded.

Dang! Good to know, I have a buddy of mine going late June. Hopefully its not horrible by then, but I'm going to warn him.

Thank you both for the info. I am thinking maybe DH can go check us in for the F! while DS and I stake out a spot for fireworks. Then hopefully we can see the fireworks & then get to the F! area as quickly as the crowds allow. Do you get the dessert box when you sit down? What happens if we are "late" and the show has started?

Thank you all for your wisdom & advice!

We will be doing this for the first time June 17. I am debating whether we will spend the 2 hours (from 6 - 8pm) waiting in line or just show up at 7:45ish. (Well, everything may be 20 minutes ahead of schedule since F! is 20 min earlier due to Grad Nite)

I have 2 questions about showing up late:
*I have 2 kids (11 and 9)- will they still be able to see if we are in whatever the "leftover" (undesirable) seats are?
*Is there any chance that we won't get seats together?

Unfortunately, since it's just the 3 of us we can't have 1 person stay and wait in line while the others play.

I am thinking about letting the boys bring their ds's so they can play games while we're in the 2 hour line. It will be a shorter park day since it's our arrival day.
When we went last year, we showed up and hour and a half early to stake out spots to watch. We sat on the ground next to someone who drove to the park that day and had already been there for an hour and a half before us. We thought we had great seats that were worth waiting for... until about 10 minutes before the show when our area got flooded with people cramming in right in FRONT of us and neither of my kids could see the show. I tried to alternate holding up one kiddo then the other, but they were 10 and 8 years old and my puny arms gave out in 5 minute increments :guilty: THIS is why I gladly paid for the seating this year! And I have a sweet tooth - can't wait for that dessert box!
I aksed a similar question in April here -Tell me what to expect with Fantasmic Dessert Package

For me, if I have to show up at 6PM and wait until 8PM to get the seats for Fantasmic, that makes it totally not worth it. Why pay money for a reservation in which you have to wait 2 hours? Further, to me it is not worth it to make a dessert reservation for the later show because seats are already easier to get - not easy, just easier. The value for me is to be able to go to the first show and not have to camp out to see it, and then also some value to have a good view and chair.

Since my kids are teens we do not have any viewing problems and I will be fine to sit in the third row. :)

The news about picking up the tickets at the hotel is WONDERFUL and I didn't know that! Thank you! :dance3:

I asked the CM about this when I inquired about the F! dessert package today, and she told me I couldn't pick them up at the front desk of the GCH...did something change or did I just get a cm who was misinformed? TIA!

Yes, you can pick them up at the hotel instead of Guest Relations. But you still have to see the CM at the podium and pick your seats (ie go early and wait in line if you want front row).

Our recent experience:

I ordered our Fantasmic tickets for May 29 thru Vacation Planning , and our check in date for the Villas at Grand Californian was May 23. When we checked in at the hotel, there was a small pink envelope with Tinkerbell on the front that had Fantasmic typed on the outside. Inside were our tickets and the receipt for our purchase.

We had spent the week at DL and did everything we wanted, so on Saturday, the main focus was Fantasmic. Having never seen it and not knowing when we would be back, I didn't want to miss a thing. We had checked out of the hotel on Friday and were staying with my son, so we drove in late Saturday afternoon. The parking deck was full, so we had to park at DTD. We had enough time for them to do a few things, but I wanted to make sure we had the opportunity to get the seats we wanted, and I was willing to wait in line for this. I made my way over to between Pirates and Haunted Mansion around 6:00 and the CM's with the yellow Fantasmic shirts (crowd control) were already out milling about.

Let me also mention that Guests were already spreading their blankets, and staking out their space to sit on the concrete for the 9:00 show, and this was around 5:40.

I found a perch on one of the low brick walls and watched as they roped off the areas for Fantasmic, brought out the chairs and set up the podium for check-in. Around 6:20, I saw a CM standing at the metal podium talking to a Guest, so I walked on over. He was explaining to her that check-in would be at 8:00 but that a line would be forming shortly to wait for the check-in and that both shows were sold out. She decided to come back later and I decided to wait, making me first in line :goodvibes . My DH showed up shortly thereafter and we just decided to switch off waiting in line. They had a seating chart there and did not mind showing it to us before check-in, and we were able to actually look at the seats and the chart and decide what we wanted. Around 6:40 the line started growing and continued to grow as time passed.

For anyone else new to this process, I was concerned about finding the check-in spot, but it will be very obvious due to the area being roped off and their being a podium with a light on it.

Around 7:50 they started checking us in. While I think the process is convuluted, and while the CM's think the process is convuluted and have asked for something different, it is what it is. Standing in line and visiting with other Guests was fine and worked for us as we had nothing else we needed to do, except eat some dinner. Once we got checked in and selected our seats (be sure and have your tickets because they do not have a list of who should be there), we went to the Riverview Terrace and grabbed some dinner. They told us to come back around 8:30 for the 9:00 show, so we were pressed for time while eating. It would have been better if we had gotten something to eat before we checked in.

As soon as we were seated, the CM offered us our dessert tray and something to drink, and she was very attentive in refilling everyone's drinks throughout the show. She could not have been any more accommodating and told us we could stay for the fireworks after Fantasmic. We did stay and were able to see them fine, including Dumbo and Tinkerbell flying. Not the ideal angle, but since we didn't have to move, and we had a chair to sit in, it was fine with us. We will see those fireworks from in front of the castle another time.

Fantasmic was really great, the seats were great, the food was great, and to me, it was well worth the money and the wait in line for this night. The crowds were huge (last weekend for Southern Cal passes and first weekend of Fantasmic in months), but the CM's did a great job of keeping everyone seated, keeping the walkways clear and herding everyone in a one-way direction once Fantasmic and the fireworks were over.

Would I do it again, probably, including the waiting in line. Would I wait in line to check in if this were one of my few days at DL, not so sure.

Hope this helps someone else that is new to the process.

Thank you for the details of your experience! I keep going back & forth on whether or not to do this but I think you have convinced me. Was going to do the late show after the fireworks one night but now I think we will plan on doing the early show one other night.

Glad to hear this. I really want to see Dumbo.

do you think it's worth it for a family with two smaller kids (6 and 2). How early exactly do you recommend getting there if you want to be in a good seat for the kids to see well?

So, if we chose grad night to do this we could already be in our seats for the 8:40 fireworks? Then fantasmic would start right away after that at 9:00? That might be worth it then for us...

Thanks for letting me know. I'll make sure to ask them to direct the ticket delivery to the hotel!

Thanks for posting about your experience! In my mind I keep trying to justify it, too, but I'm 99% sure I'm going to just take the plunge ;) I don't know if I will want to wait in line that long with a toddler, so while I'm short I may just have to suck it up & deal w/possibly being in the last row.

Thank you SO much RweTHERE yet!!
Your post was exactly what I was hoping to see - a recent rundown of how it works! :-)

Still hoping to find out where the most convenient bathrooms would be just prior to the show... The ones where we'd be going the "right" way with the flow of traffic towards our seats! :-)

Thank you!!!

After we checked in and got our seats assigned at the podium. DD and I went to the bathroom in New Orleans Square, back by the train station. Not sure if that is the right way for the flow of traffic, but it worked for us. It was a complete madhouse, but we made it back ok. :goodvibes
