Just got back to delightfully dry and 75 degree L.A. after a wonderful but hot and humid 9 day trip to Walt Disney World. We had a blast, but our one disappointment was that we got rained out of Fantasmic! on the night we had the dining package.

So, we're planning on going to Disneyland on Saturday, September 20th and splurging for the Fantasmic! dessert package. I'm pretty sure that the Halloween party does not happen on Saturdays.

Anyone have any experience with this? We just don't want to have to claim a spot of pavement 6 hours before the show starts. THANKS!

I have done it twice. The dessert package details are discussed here:

I recommend reading thru this thread. It was an huge help when we decided to to it last year.

We opted to line up at like 6:20 (this was Aug btw) and even though we were like 4th or 5th in line we were first for our seating and got seats 1 & 2 which were amazing. And both my DH and I loved the dessert box. It was worth it for us to have the chair to sit in. I don't think we would do it every trip but it's nice for a splurge.

My family did the dessert package a few years ago. We used to do it every year, but it just got too expensive per person. While it is expensive, it is worth doing it as a splurge. The desserts are good. Every person gets a box of treats. The time we did it, they let us stay in our seats for the fireworks. I say go for the dessert package!

SWEET! (Literally.) I think we're going to do this. As others have said on this thread, we won't do it every time but this would be a nice splurge.

DS9 and I did the package in March and loved having a seat and yummy treats. The treats were more than either of us could finish, so we took them back to the hotel and munched on them the rest of our stay. My DS had hot cocoa and felt it was too sweet with the desserts so he swapped it out for sprite.

It is true that you definitely need to line up at by 6pm though to get a good choice of seats. So you'll be standing in line about 2 hours. DS didn't care for this. But, depending on age of kids you could let them go somewhere close by (HM, POTC) and then report back to you in line.

I think it's worth doing it once. Not sure we'll do it every trip though.

I think it was worth it, but I don't know that I would wait so long in line for the seats again, that was miserable, but only because my DH had a heart attack the previous month, and didn't want to take the kids on rides while I stood in line. We loved the dessert boxes, ate ate them all week. The grapes and cheese and crackers were wonderful! I might do it again, we'll have to see!

I can't sit on the ground, and the handicap viewing section is way off to the side, so this is the only way we watch Fantasmic anymore. There is plenty in the dessert box to last for the entire trip!

It is completely astounding to me that we have to line up to pick our seats. The first year we did this, but last year we just walked up right before. Of course, we got stuck sitting behind tall people wearing hats!! Why can't we choose our seats when we buy the package the way it is done when you get concert tickets? Waiting two hours to choose your seats defeats the whole purpose of getting the package. People buy it for the convenience. Are you paying attention DLR?!

That to me is the only major downside to the Dessert Seating. If you care about where you sit (want a seat in the front row), you need to get there and hour and a half before they start assigning seats...definitely not a time saver.

Spend tons of cash. Wait for a good seat like everyone else who didn't get the dessert package. That's why we didn't do it on our last trip. Seems like you pay a lot for a box of sweeties and the right to wait in a different line than johnny q public. Certainly not like the WDW Fantasmic Dinner package. That's great in that you pay the same price for dinner as you would without the package. It's dinner at normal price w/the guarantee of good seats because of the awesome arena they have in Orlando.

WDW can keep their arena, we have the better show :-)

I don't like the arena. I don't like staking out a spot at DLR, either, though. But for me, the arena removes something of the experience. I feel so far away from the action. At DL, it can feel real for me, less of a show and more like it's something that is happening in the park and I just happened to be passing by and saw it. It has this element of reality that the Hollywood version doesn't have. And you still have to arrive early for the good seats.

Uhm...except that there are no "seats" for everyone else. Seat = chair. Ground = well, being on the ground. Sitting on the ground is not comfortable for me, and from that perspective, there really is no comparison between the two experiences.

I'm not saying I'd do the dessert often, but it was fun once and I might do it again sometime.

J We had a blast, but our one disappointment was that we got rained out of Fantasmic! on the night we had the dining package.

So did you buy seating and then it got rained out? Did they refund your money? I'm seriously thinking about this for New Years Eve -- ha, ha, ha I bet the seats are gone long before 30 days out, but maybe worth the try.
