Fantasmic changes to schedule - when/how?

I read the other day on this board that Disney added another Fantasmic show to its schedule. The impression I got is that they added a 2nd show on the same night as the 1st show.

If that is true, how often do they do that? How much notice do they give guests? And how do they disseminate the information?

This is critical information to have early as there are 2 critical events at DS taking place at the same time (AIE and Fantasmic) and would like NOT to have to take 2 nights at HS to do both.

Thanks

Based upon what I remember reading here --

I think in January and February when Fantasmic was cut back drastically from 7 nights a week to only 2, they added some second Fantasmic showings on the very day of the show.

Since then, I don't think there have been too many last-minute additions like those, but I know that in March & April, there were some second showings added as recently as one week ahead.

And even during the past couple of months, I believe that some second showings popped up about two weeks or so before the night in question.

So keep checking the calendars for your nights of interest!

When I booked our Disney vacation a few months ago, I chose a date to be in DHS when Fantasmic was showing. At that time, there was only 1 show at 9:00.

To my surprise, I double check the calendars last night (after more than a month since my last check) .... Disney added a second showing for our date, August 20th.

Someone in the earlier threads advised going to the later show since tend not to be as crowded as the 9:00 earlier show.:cheer2:

With the limited showings now, it is likely that both showings will be pretty crowded, but the second showing may be a bit less crowded than the first.

We just returned on Monday. Fantasmic was a nightmare (no pun intended). The 9pm show had a line at 6:30pm. It was standing room only 15 minutes after they let people in which I think was 7:45pm but I'm not 100% sure. It was closed off shortly after that.

The 10:30 show had a line that extended passed Teluca Turkey Legs at 9pm. The 10:30 show was completely full also.

I will not see Fantasmic again if they keep it like this. It was miserable and not worth it.

OH MY ...... I have a feeling when DH sees this kind of line up, he will just turn around immediately. He hates lining up for anything. I have prepared the family for line ups .... but not for 2.5 hours long !!!

Given your situation, I would shoot for the second show if I were you. I have only read one first-hand report here all year which said that the second show turned people away.

When we went on March 18, which was wall-to-wall people at DHS all day, with the Wait time at 9:15 a.m. for Rock n Roller Coaster at 80 minutes, we could have walked into the second Fantasmic show at 5 minutes before the show and still gotten seats. The end sections were almost completely empty.

The line for the second show stretched all the way down Sunset Boulevard, but the theatre holds a lot of people. You could at least wait for the line to start moving before you hop in line (about 30 minutes before show time), so it's not quite so claustrophobic.
