Fantasmic as a 4th or 5th FP or standby?

We only have one day at DHS and it's Saturday, 10/6 (Columbus Day weekend, Resort level 7, park level 6.) Only one showing of Fantasmic currently scheduled for that night at 8pm (last time we were there they had 2 shows).

We really love Fantasmic so it's a priority to see it, but because we only have one day there, we don't want to waste time on a dining package and frankly, the dessert package would be $200 for my family and that's a lot for cupcakes and cheese cubes.

Should we try to snag it as a 4th or 5th FP+ or will that shave off any time? My understanding is that the FP just gets you into the general seating area. If you suggest standby, how early should we show up? I seem to remember that there aren't many bad seats so we don't have to be up close but we do want to get a seat.

There are sections reserved for FP, so having one gives you more choice and marginally better viewing with somewhat less wait. FPs for Fantasmic are typically not hard to find day-of, though holiday weekend crowds may make that harder than usual.

We were at DHS a few weeks ago and picked up FPs for Fantasmic about a half hour before showtime. I believe they were our 9th FPs for the day.

We arrived about 10 minutes before showtime. The place was pretty crowded by then but we had good timing and were ushered into a half empty dining plan section.

Great seats with very little waiting is my kind of show.
