Fanny Packs! There! I said it out loud!

I LOVE having a "fanny pack" for the parks- is fantastic way yo carry all the essentials... and I found the absolute PERFECT one at thinkgeek.com that has the perfect blend of function and geekyness...

http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/c616/?pfm=Search&t=hip pack

Looks just like a Han Solo blaster belt- has zippers and velcro- NOTHING will fall out or get ruined on virtually any ride... is awesome!!

I used to use a fanny pack (strictly for Disney trips....) and I have changed to a drawstring backpack. I actually like the backpack better because I can put a few more things in it without it getting heavy and I find it easier to put on and take off when going through security and riding rides. :cool1:

My family laughs at my fanny pack. Purchased at WDW many years ago -
I only use it at WDW.
Just shopped yesterday and purchased a crossbody bag for our November trip.
That one you posted is adorable.
I will take my old WDW fanny pack, too !

taking off and on a backpack at every single ride would drive me to drink! That's worse that a purse if you ask me. I have to be hands freeeeee!:dogdance:

I carry a small "fanny pack" in the parks, though the strap is so long that I usually wear it as a cross-body bag. I shorten the strap and wear it on my hip for rides that aren't bag friendly, and in restaurants where there's just no place to put a purse.

Despite the name, I've never worn it on my fanny. A couple friends have teased me for carrying it, but that doesn't stop them from asking me to hold their stuff from time to time!

My fanny pack has a few names -
fanny pack
hipster
or
belly bag
and I can make the strap longer to make a shoulder bag.

So I gave my DH his new camo manly fanny pack!

I asked him,"Soooo...what did you think about your new camo fanny pack?!"

He stared at me, paused, and said, "It's. A. Fanny. Pack."

No excitement in his voice whatsoever! :confused3 ;)

I also found Mama a nice navy blue traditional one today on ebay. Now, I only have to get mine back from DD!

(my DD24 used to constantly make reference to her professor who wore sensible shoes and always had a fanny pack. They seemed to complement one another...)

My brother swears by the fanny pack for the parks but I just couldn't bring myself to use one so I bought a Patagonia Atom (based on suggestions on the DIS). I went to Disneyland yesterday and used it for the first time and loved it. It's just a small single strap backpack but it was so comfortable I didn't even notice it, it also easily swings around to the front for access to the pockets and also when on rides so I didn't have to take it off.

I can honestly say I didn't notice a single fanny pack the entire day, I'm sure people were wearing them but I was so busy enjoying DL that what other people were wearing was the last thing on my mind. I did notice a couple peoples normal backpacks but that was only because they were stuffed and they looked heavy and painful.

Long story short, if it works, use it.

Lol.. I was googling for a small backpack and finally said forget it and decided on a fannypack.. Now called hip packs or something like that.. They need to make a come back! I'm into bodybuilding as well so this will be extra fun :)

Haha that does sound like fun.
Look ma, No hands!

After several visits to WDW, I've noticed that the laws of fashion are basically suspended:rotfl2:. I always opt for comfort over fashion and I can't stand a strap across my shoulder. I have two great bags but I won't use them in the parks because they are shoulder bags. I have a waistpack that I bought on clearance at Eddie Bauer for $7. The only place I use it is at WDW and I LOVE it! I can store everything I need and stay totally hands-free. I don't care what people think about fanny packs. When I am walking around a park all day, I want to be comfortable and a strap across my shoulder is NOT comfortable.

That ruffled pack from Etsy posted on page one is the cutest thing ever. I could not even bring myself to call that a fanny pack (sorry friends down under, I get why it's funny/awkward, but I can't call the category anything but!)

We have a bookbag with a zippered cooler at the bottom and a drawstring top, but this upcoming trip is the first one WITH a meal plan and WITHOUT a stroller, (and WITH a PP+, so I'm not planning on bringing the D-SLR most days), so I'm not sure if we're going to need a big-ish bag like that. I have a crossbody bag I use when travelling, but like about the bookbag that DH wears it (ruffled bag would definitely fall into the "ack! purse!" category that leaves me carrying it)

We (2 middle-aged adults) switched to backpacks several years ago. DW used to carry a mini backpack, but now it's usually me that carries a regular backpack. The only hassle is security.

I prefer the cinch saks! I like to keep a light sweater with me all day even in the summer. AC is just too much for me at times! I never feel it at all and just take one shoulder strap off to sit down in rides. I usually take a sweater, a few meds, bandaids and throw my Iphone in there as well. The only pain is having to go through bag check, but it's worth it for all day comfort.

Fanny Packs, well to each is own but don't be surprised if you get people pointing and staring at you. :) I personally perfer a backpack.

My kids tease me about my fanny pack all the time but I won't be the one caring the back pack. Even when my kids were small I didn't carry a back pack into the parks. A fanny pack for me is perfect. I figure when at the parks I am not trying to win any fashion contests so fanny packs and tennis shoes are what I use for long days in the park. I actually wish I could go without the pack too but with money and phone and advil needs I need to carry something. I don't understand how people can go in caring nothing and wearing spike heels! Even when I was young I could not have done that!

well if you want to still use your back when you are older - fanny packs are better.

besides when my back starts to hurt - can turn the fanny pack from the side to the back - and guess what the pain stops.

with a backpack - you have to take it off for most of the rides - and you might be surprised at the amount of people who forget it.....

guess I care more for my back than what others think. besides if you spend your life trying to please others - well sorry that seems sad to me.

Nobody has ever pointed or stared at me. If they did, I probably wouldn't notice, because I don't go to DLR or WDW to worry about what other people think about how I manage my stuff. But then, I also don't spend much time worrying about how other people manage their stuff. Everyone enjoys Disney in their own way, I guess.
