I've read that at Universal/IOA you have to put bags in a locker. Does this apply to fanny packs too? I've been thinking this would be a way to avoid the lockers if possible.

What about hats/flipflops? Do they allow you to sit on these so you don't lose them or do they have to go in the lockers too?

All advice gratefully received!

Small fanny packs that don't interfere with restraints should be fine. I've heard they also allow you to sit on flip-flops and hats, though I personally have never done it. And I have seen others doing it. :thumbsup2

AS long as it is not a huge fanny pack and does not interfere with the restraint system.I saw them make a woman with a fanny pack the size of a 3 yr old lock it up.

:scared1: Wait a minute - Universal newbie here...we always carry a string backpack when we're at Disney & they let us bring it on all the rides. We keep eyeglass (sunglass) cases, ponchos, bottled water, bandaids, sunscreen etc. in it. Does Universal have cubbies at the rides to leave it in or we literally have to go rent a locker and "park it" for the day?

All the rides that require lockers have free lockers. For example if you're riding Hulk and the wait time says 30 minutes then the lockers at that location are free for that time period....

Some of the rides do not allow ANY hand held items or bags on rides. There are NO cubbies. They do have lockers located outside the ride area and to use them is free for the first half hr.After that you have to pay for it.As mentioned, SMALL fanny packs are allowed as long as they do not interefere.I carry a pack at Disney too( young child) But for my trip to US/IOA we went bagless , and it was WONDERFUL

I wear RX sunglasses so I always carry an eyeglass case with my reg. glasses in it so I can switch my glasses whenever we go inside. For what I pay for bifocal RX sunglass they'd better let me have a secure place to lock them up! I usually take them off and put them away on any rides that go upside down too, although sometimes I just use an eyeglass strap. We also all wear hats when we're in FL in the summer so we always take those off & put them in the bag while we're on a ride. And everything goes in the bag when we're on a ride where we might get wet - especially wallets & cell phones etc...I haven't used a fanny pack in a few years. I do have an old one somewhere that's pretty big - but it's probably TOO big. It's almost a backpack size. Disney allowed it but sounds like Universal won't.

Curious - if the lockers are free for 30 minutes - how do they know for sure that you'll be done / back in 30 minutes? How do they work? Do they have timers? What if something happens & they shut the ride down for a few minutes & you're late getting back to the locker? How do you get your stuff back? If we're staying onsite & will have the express pass do you think it will be a problem?

The locker free period time is based on the queue length plus some extra time. If the is an incident where you need more time, just talk to the attendant, and they will help you.

If you have express pass, you won't have a problem because your queue length will be shorter that the standby queue length.

Have some wear cargo shorts or pants every day to help store those loose items that you want to keep with you.

They will let you hold your hat and put your glasses on a string and put them inside your shirt to secure them. Universal does this to protect your belongs, the safety of the riders and the mechanisms on the rides.

Thank you for the replies, I really don't want to carry anything big - mainly money, phone, tickets, camera - so hopefully we will be ok :thumbsup2

I have witnessed times where they allow people with fanny packs to ride the rides that do not allow any bags on them. However, I have also witnessed them turning people away with fanny packs. There really seems to be no real "system" in place when it comes to fanny packs.

Whenever I go on a ride that does not allow any bags, we store everything in the free lockers. Like others have said, they are free for the length of the que plus roughly 15 minutes. If the ride breaks down or something, the people watching over the lockers know about this and extend the "free" time. They are really helpful when it comes to problems with the lockers and timing.

On the Rip Ride Rockit, I take it a step further by totally empting all of my pockets (including wallet, cell phone, etc). The first time I rode the ride I nearly lost my cell phone in my pocket because of the lift hill. If they offer FREE lockers, store whatever you want in them. I would rather enjoy the ride knowing I will not lose anything than by riding the ride with sunglasses in my pocket and having them fly out, or worse losing your wallet or ID.
