I tried ordering one at www.onestepahead.com and they're no longer stocking them! My trip is in 6 weeks and I need some ideas! Where can I purchase this product or a product like it? I read on another thread that someone bought a kids fanny pack and used the elastic tether from something else. Please give specifics! My two year old will NOT stay in the stroller and boy, does he like to wander! So this tether system is a MUST.

Thanks for your help!!!!!

We've got that and it works great! We even made some more little pockets in cute Disney material.

Another thing that would work fine--get a small child's fanny pack. Get a color-coordinated cat leash. Use one of those clips that (I think) mountain climbers use--know what I mean? Hook the clip to the back of the fanny pack and clip the leash to that.

We fastened an id card to the fanny pack and whenever we didn't need the leash we just slipped it into the pocket.

Have fun planning!

This is called a caribiner (pronounced care-i-beaner). Link takes you to a picture of one.

Did you do a google search on the product name? You may find someone who still carries it that way.

edit to add: Is this what you're looking for? Tagalong

Ooh, you're good--you found it! That's a great price, too.

Glad to know what that thing is called--and someone would have to 'bean' me to get me on a mountain!!::yes::

you could use anything attached to a fanny pack, but make sure it's not too long - a proper set of reins (as we call them) has a very short strap so that noone can get tangled between the parent and the child. If you used a dogs lead for example, it would be far too long and you would cause problems for other people walking near you.
I've never heard of a cat's leash so I have no idea how long they are - but it's something to bear in mind.

If my dd is standing next to me with her reins on, she could maybe take one or two steps away from me, no more than that.

this picture gives a pretty good idea of how long they are

The one at One Step Ahead is so small you cant carry anything in it. I did the same thing-got a childs size pack, took the leash off of a harness and clipped it to the back of the pack. When we didnt need the leash during stroller riding/eating/shows/ rides/photos I just tucked the leash into the back of his shirt. I didnt unclip it because if he bolted, I at least had a chance of pulling it out of his shirt! Just be sure as has been stated, not to have a long leash or an elastic one. If they get too far away, the leash could interfer with others walking around.

Thank you for posting this ... b/c it seems like I'm always the one who gets twisted up on some child b/c their mom or dad lets the cording get too long and can't keep track of their child's movements b/c that child is too far away for them to see!
